About the Role:

We are seeking a strong scientific contributor to contribute and lead the development and technology transfer of antibody content from early stage research into manufacturing and production as a member of the New Product Development team.

The New Product Development team at 10X Genomics acts as the interface between early stage R&D and production; this position will interact directly with both of these organizations. This is a cross-disciplinary position that will work closely with groups across 10X that include Molecular Biology, Computational Biology, Quality Control, and Manufacturing to develop and validate antibody based reagents for the rapid expansion of 10X’s product portfolio.

In addition to deep knowledge and experience with antibodies, Candidates must also have a broad working knowledge of molecular biology or biochemistry and be able to apply that knowledge independently and creatively toward the development of novel NGS, spatial, and in situ products. Candidates with experience around development of antibody products for flow cytometry or fixed tissue applications are encouraged to apply. Previous experience with formulation and application of antibodies for product development that includes late stage development, quality control assays, successful product launches, and ongoing product support is highly desired.

The successful applicant will have exceptional attention to detail and the ability to design, execute, and analyze complex experiments. Individuals applying for this position must be self-starters, strategic thinkers, action driven, flexible in changing direction and methods, thrive in a fast paced environment, excel at managing priorities, and provide clear communication and recommendations around scientific results.

What you will be doing:

  • Actively contribute to the development of single cell, spatial, and in situ products from early concept through post-launch and sustaining activities for antibody content.
  • Provide technical leadership in the lab to develop and evaluate workflows for antibody applications, formulations, and ongoing product support across multiple product lines.
  • Guide long term infrastructure development projects that would enable and enhance 10x’s ability to deliver antibody based catalog and custom content across multiple product lines.
  • Interact and establish healthy long term commercial relationships with external vendors.
  • Evaluate and transfer critical technologies for antibody conjugation and/or labeling.
  • Identify, hire, and lead exceptional personnel for ongoing antibody development projects.
  • Independently troubleshoot and resolve issues around antibody formulation, long term storage, and quality control issues.
  • Conceive, develop, validate, and implement new quality control methods to assess formulations of single and multiplexed antibody blends.
  • Design and conduct experiments to determine understanding of antibody interactions within complex systems, cause & effect, failure modes, guard band studies, and optimization using DOE methodologies.

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD or MS in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Microbiology, Cell biology, Immunology, Protein/Antibody Engineering, or related fields.
  • 7+ years (PhD) or 11+ years (MS) of relevant Biotechnology industry experience.
  • Deep understanding of and hands-on experience with antibody expression, purification, analytical applications, quality control, formulation for stability and/or performance, and product development.
  • Demonstrated success in developing, optimizing, and troubleshooting antibody panels for novel analytical assays.
  • Experience developing and implementing novel QC methods to assess performance of antibody panels in both functional and orthogonal assays.
  • Experience with antibody conjugation chemistries and their quantification.
  • Ability to write standard operating procedures (SOPs) and train others to successfully plan, execute, and evaluate complex analytical assays.
  • Demonstrate exceptionally strong collaboration and communication skills across technical and non-technical parts of an organization.
  • Product development experience demonstrated by the successful launch of a commercial product where antibodies play a critical technical role.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Previous experience supervising and/or mentoring junior staff.
  • Able to demonstrate leadership and success guiding antibody based products from concept phase through launch.
  • Exposure to working with antibody panels in the context of fixed tissue samples.
  • Expertise in antibody screening and relevant experimental workflows.
  • Previous work with custom reagent vendors and setting up long term commercial relationships.
  • Experience defining and transferring workflows for custom product formulation.
  • Experience using statistical tools, such as JMP or R to analyze complex data sets, create DOE experiments, and data trending.
  • Hands-on experience with 10X single cell or spatial products.
