About the role:

We are seeking an outstanding Senior or Staff level Scientist to join the New Product Development (NPD) team and lead the product improvement efforts on the 10x single cell portfolio.  This is a unique cross-disciplinary position that will work closely with a variety of groups including Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Computational Biology, QC, Manufacturing, and Marketing to sustain and improve the manufacturability and profitability of the single cell portfolio.  This is a lead from the bench role requiring hands-on expertise in conceiving and executing product improvement projects.

What you will be doing:

  • Proactively identifying and resolving on-going or new issues in single-cell product by working collaboratively with Subject Matter Experts in R&D and Operations
  • Act as the Operations representative to the company-wide Life Cycle Management team 
  • Design and conduct experiments to determine underlying reaction mechanisms, cause and effect, failure modes, guard band studies and optimization using DOE methodologies.
  • Conceive, develop, validate, and implement new QC methods to assess reagent quality, emulsion chemistries, consumables, and kits through a variety of analytical and functional tests
  • Help build out our internal manufacturing and process development infrastructure to improve our  single cell products
  • Development and optimization of novel reagents for applications within the single-cell portfolio of products
  • Independently troubleshoot and resolve reagent formulation, QC, and incoming material issues

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Microbiology, Cell biology, Analytical Chemistry, or related fields.
  • 5+ years post PhD Biotechnology industry experience 
  • Candidates must be a Molecular Biology reagent expert in the Life Sciences industry
  • NGS reagent and kit development experience as demonstrated by the successful launch of a commercial product
  • Deep understanding of and hands-on experience with a variety of NGS library preparation workflows; 
  • Previous industry experience in product development or process engineering
  • Experience using statistical tools, such as JMP to analyze complex data sets, create DOE experiments, and data trending.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and optimizing novel molecular biology assays in an industry setting.
  • Experience developing and implementing novel QC methods to assess reagent performance in both functional and orthogonal assays.
  • Ability to write SOPs and train others to successfully perform the work.
  • Exceptionally strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • The successful applicant will have exceptional attention to detail and the ability to meticulously execute and analyze highly complex experiments.

 

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Demonstrated success moving products from concept phase through launch
  • Single cell workflows strongly preferredHands-on experience with 10X single-cell products
  • Experience working in ISO, GMP, and/or IVD environments is highly desired
  • Experience with automated liquid handling systems
  • Expertise in cell preparation, cell staining, and working with fixed samples
  • Previous work with custom reagent vendors and setting up OEM relationships
  • Previous experience supervising and/or mentoring junior staff
