About the team:

The Careem Legal Team provides solutions-oriented legal support in Careem’s journey to simplify and improve lives in the region, and build an awesome organisation that inspires.

The Legal Team works closely with a diverse range of stakeholders to create an enabling environment to build the most trusted technology platform in the wider Middle East. A strategic approach when providing legal advice and an alignment of values are what make this group effective.

 

About the role:

Ten years into its journey Careem is at an exciting stage of growth as it expands the first Super App across the region. As we grow our teams to support this growth, we are looking for an experienced, ambitious and proactive Director of Legal for M&A and Strategic Transactions to be based in Dubai.

You will play a key role in supporting the company’s M&A, investment and other corporate development activities, including the due diligence process, negotiation of term sheets and definitive transaction agreements as well as M&A playbooks and related support projects. 

 

What you will do:

  • Primary in-house counsel for mergers and acquisitions, investments and other strategic transactions in all stages - including leading due diligence, drafting and negotiating term sheets and definitive transaction documentation, and leading closing transactions and  post-closing integration
  • Work closely with our internal business and compliance teams, as well as with external advisors and experts
  • Manage projects effectively, with a team-oriented approach
  • Assist with other corporate projects

 

What you'll need:

The ideal candidate will have a passionate commitment to improving the lives of people, an insane focus on excellence, and a strong alignment with our core values: being bold, focused, agile and collaborative. Additional qualifications include:

  • Law degree from a top international university
  • Fluent in English
  • A minimum of 5 years of corporate transactional experience. Big law firm experience preferred
  • Must have experience with fundraising, M&A transactions from inception to closing, and related experience in general corporate and corporate governance matters
  • Ability to be the primary in-house attorney on certain corporate projects, including handling multiple simultaneous transactions or projects
  • Strong decision-making abilities, attention to detail, and ability to give executive-level guidance in a timely manner
  • Superior interpersonal skills and team-first attitude
  • Sound and practical business judgment
  • Strong contract negotiation and drafting skills
  • The ability to prioritise and multitask, particularly when working under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced, exciting and unstructured environment
