Crunchyroll COVID-19 Hiring Status

Crunchyroll employees are currently working from home, and we are still conducting remote interviews and hiring during this time. This role is expected to start remotely, and we’ll work closely with you as we understand every person has unique circumstances.

About the Team

This role works with the Creative Director and other Art Directors to ensure the brand and design integrity of all the assets created by the Creative Services Design team.

Our team creates eye-catching designs that capture and hold our audience’s attention. We create digital, print, and experiential assets across multiple platforms and formats, worldwide. Our key goals are audience development and retention, for our streaming service, our games, our events, and other ancillary products and markets. We are the team that creates the brand’s visual identity, on both the B2C and corporate B2B side. Our work accelerates audience growth, drives revenue, and is key to the expansion of the Crunchyroll family of brands. We build internal and external relationships, and have the ability to create innovative campaign assets that significantly impact global growth.

For streaming, we showcase the latest shows and concept enticing ways to package catalog titles. For events, we are responsible for developing the look and feel for new and existing events worldwide, including Anime Awards, Crunchyroll Expo, and more. For games, we work closely with game developers, studios, and IP holders to publish and co-publish games to a worldwide audience. This team is highly collaborative, working closely with multiple stakeholders to ensure success in competitive and fast-growing markets.

Location: San Francisco

Our headquarters is located in downtown San Francisco, where our group of cross-functional experts assemble to create experiences for Crunchyroll and VRV’s passionate communities.

About You:

You understand that good design speaks to the viewer and drives measurable marketing results. You are a creative leader, you manage a high-velocity team, you elevate the quality of work, and inspire staff. You hold designers to high standards, ensuring that there are no misaligned elements or that are distracting from the overall asset message. You have a quick eye for rearranging design elements to create better hierarchy and visual harmony. Driving exciting design is your passion. Though you love creative work, you also have the qualities of a business leader—strong organizational skills, ability to establish and handle key metrics and have the ability to prioritize work based on business objectives. You have a good understanding of the time needed to create various assets—from simple re-sizes or versioning to multi level campaigns. You are a cross-team collaborator, working with multiple business lines and teams, including paid media, lifecycle marketing, product design, video creative, games, events, ecommerce, social media, editorial, PR/comms, HR, and sales. You are an authority at handling high-volume workflow, establishing and maintaining an organized environment, and fostering visible communication and objectives that allow the creative staff to flourish. You must have excellent visual and communication skills. You are a team builder with the ability to create a team with a client and audience-centric approach.

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 7+ years relevant experience
  • A portfolio that demonstrates excellence in visual design and consumer branding.
  • Experience leading a creative team in media, OTT, gaming, eCommerce, mass-market consumer brands and/or tech
  • Expert level of knowledge in Adobe Creative Suite products.
  • Experience leading iterative design process to identify and improve existing solutions.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with internal and external partners
  • Experience establishing and handling to metrics and business objectives
  • Ability to lead team in generating ideas and fresh concepts, and lead through to execution
  • A consensus-builder, you foster trust across teams through clear communication
  • Excellent organizational skills, with strong experience leading high-volume workflow with overlapping deadlines
  • Flexible and quick-thinking, you enjoy working in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Must have a respect for fandoms, and understand the importance of community-building
  • An interest in digital content trends, anime, media and/or entertainment strongly preferred
  • Experience working within a project management tool (Wrike, Asana, workfront, etc.)

A day in the life of our creative team:

  • Oversee development of design assets for marketing, events, games and/or corporate activations
  • Review a plethora of assets spanning multiple show titles and/or corporate brand for both digital and print placements
  • Work with produces and project managers to manage traffic and workflow within the creative team and help establish standard methodologies for iterative creative work and review
  • Collaborate across teams to lead timelines, objectives, and prioritization
  • Define goals and own critical metrics, based on business needs
  • Report to stakeholders the successes, failures, and operational areas for improvement; iterate creatively to optimize results
  • Mentor and manage team members; foster a positive, supportive environment
  • Constant, clear communication of objectives, status, and results
  • Vet and manage external vendors, agencies, and contractors
  • Build a service-oriented team that is client and audience-centric
