The Company

Sonata Therapeutics is a new, Boston-based Flagship Pioneering company revolutionizing the world’s understanding of the cellular microenvironment and its importance to human biology and disease. Our product-platform creates drugs based on a systematic, comprehensive characterization of the microenvironment in diseases with high unmet medical need. Through our pioneering science, we identify new targets for therapeutics that induce the release of a programmed diversity of signals with the potential for significant patient impact. Our employees are exceptionally passionateaccountablecollaborative, and innovative.

Sonata Therapeutics was founded by Flagship Pioneering, an organization dedicated to the origination and development of first-in-category life sciences companies.  Since 2000, Flagship has originated and fostered the development of nearly 100 scientific ventures resulting in $20+ billion in aggregate value, 500+ issued patents, and more than 50 clinical trials for novel therapeutic agents.

The Position:

Due to the expansion of our R&D capabilities, we are currently on the hunt for a creative Associate Director/Director, Cell-Based Assay Development/Screening, to build and develop a world-class team of scientists to advance and expand Sonata’s platform technology.

  • Supervising the design, execution, interpretation, and communication of experiments to identify novel targets across our therapeutic platform, with an ability to integrate in vitro and in vivo discovery strategies
  • Develop screening assays in a variety of cell-based formats, including co-culture culture systems
  • Design and implement strategies to use automation capabilities to increase throughput and robustness of assays
  • Leverage a wide variety of high-performance instrumentation to achieve discovery platform objectives
  • Proactively engaging with colleagues from diverse functional areas as well as developing external collaborations with academic and biotechnology partners to develop and integrate enabling technology to identify novel targets

As an excellent candidate, you will possess...

  • Ph.D. in chemistry, biology, or biochemistry and 5+ years’ experience in Pharma/biotech setting with phenotypic screening is required. Experience managing a team is preferred
  • Experience with cell-based assay development is a must! Experience with immune-assay development would be a plus but not required.
