About the Role:

Omega Therapeutics is seeking a Patent Counsel / Patent Agent (commensurate with experience), reporting to the Vice President of Intellectual Property, the Patent Counsel / Patent Agent will work in a fast-paced environment with a broad range of intellectual property matters helping to build and maintain a strong IP portfolio, protecting the Omega technology platform and pipeline. The Patent Counsel/Patent Agent will work closely with scientists, management and outside counsel and will have a strong understanding of U.S. and international intellectual property laws and concepts related to the biopharmaceutical business. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

 The Patent Counsel / Patent Agent will help drive the creation of new patent applications and the prosecution of the existing patent estate, including:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications directed to the Omega Technology (e.g. the Omega Epigenomic Controllers and delivery) and pipeline
  • Provide IP landscape, patentability, FTO and due diligence assessments
  • Review proposed publications and presentations for potential impact on the IP portfolio
  • Assist in the negotiating and drafting of agreements with IP implications (e.g., CDAs, MTAs, research agreements, etc.)
  • Liaise with external legal counsel
  • Educate and advise employees on IP matters
  • Manage and update the IP database

 

Required Qualifications:

  • MS/PhD in Molecular Biology, Cellular Biology or Biochemistry and preferably a JD
  • 3-6 years of in-house or law firm experience in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications, preferably directed to biologics and/or nucleic acid therapies
  • Admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
  • Familiarity with scientific and IP databases
  • Excellent writing, analytical and communication skills
  • Organized, detail-oriented and strong abilities to work in teams
  • Strong prioritizing skills and ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities, and ability to quickly adjust to shifting priorities and demanding deadlines
