Company Summary:

Ring Therapeutics Inc. is a privately held, early-stage biotechnology company pioneering a completely novel form of gene therapy by exploiting a family of naturally occurring commensal viruses to create the first redosable and targetable DNA medicines. This approach enables a powerful new class of tropic, persistent, non-integrating vectors that overcome the immunogenicity, and limited tropism of existing gene therapy vectors. Ring Therapeutics is leveraging this versatile technology to develop a broad pipeline of novel, targeted medicines for disease with high unmet medical need.

Ring Therapeutics was founded by Flagship Pioneering, focused on launching breakthrough companies based on internally conceived innovations and insights. Flagship Pioneering has created over 40 groundbreaking companies over the past fifteen years, all of which are pioneering novel and proprietary biological, industrial, and engineering approaches to solve major needs in human health and sustainability. These companies include Seres Therapeutics (NASDAQ:MCRB), Moderna (MRNA), Syros Pharmaceuticals (SYRS), Rubius Therapeutics (RUBY), Axcella Health (AXLA), Evelo Biosciences (EVLO), and Indigo Agriculture.

Position Summary:

Ring Therapeutics is hiring a Computational Biologist to join and contribute to its multi-disciplinary viral genomics team. The viral genomics team is tasked with exploring, identifying, and characterizing new and novel anelloviruses for use in Ring Therapeutics cutting-edge gene therapy platform using the latest next-generation sequencing (NGS) platforms and computational methods.

The candidate will lead viral transcriptome and metagenomic discovery-based research projects to inform and enhance Ring’s therapeutic platform. We are searching for candidates who have worked with NGS data, have a background in virology or with multi-omics analysis, have experience developing pipelines and novel analysis tools, and thrive in an interdisciplinary environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work to explore and characterize the anellovirus transcriptome in in-vivo and in-vitro systems.
  • Explore and characterize host metagenome and metatranscriptome in in-vitro systems.
  • Identify, implement, and develop methods to optimize anellovirus transcriptomic yields in NGS experiments.
  • Work cross-functionally across teams to drive discovery and development efforts.
  • Create innovative data visualizations and communicate complex results to interdisciplinary audiences.
  • Ensure computational work is documented and reproducible.
  • Work in a highly dynamic startup environment with an interdisciplinary team.

Qualifications:

  • PhD or MS with multiple years industry experience or equivalent in bioinformatics, computational biology, genomics, or related field.
  • Strong domain knowledge in host and microbe RNA transcriptomics and DNA metagenomic analysis (functional profiling, differential expression, alternative splicing, expression normalization techniques).
  • Proficient in at least one general-purpose programming language (Python, Java, C++, Rust, Julia, etc.) and with visualizing data using tools such as R/ggplot2, matplotlib, etc.
  • Experience with NGS data analysis using tools such as Kraken, DEseq, Kallisto, Salmon, etc. are ideal but not required.
  • Demonstrated ability in working with highly skilled, diverse teams in an industry environment.
  • Demonstrated industry experience or academic achievement, as evidenced by publications in high impact journals, conference proceedings, or a widely used codebase (per activity on Github/Gitlab/Bitbucket repositories)
