Overview
We are seeking a dynamic, collaborative, and creative Senior/Principal Data Engineer to build FL69’s nascent data platform. As part of FL69’s Computational Biology team, s/he will develop cloud-based solutions to advance FL69’s strategic and scientific goals by ensuring that the data that drives FL69’s growth is Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with computational and wet-lab scientists to develop and implement a comprehensive, scalable data strategy for FL69
- Collaborate with computational and wet-lab scientists to model and integrate data generated by FL69 and third parties
- Work with computational scientists to develop and optimize analysis pipelines
- Establish and manage cloud-based databases used by computational scientists
- Develop and manage infrastructure for cloud-based high-performance computing
- Ingest and manage public data sources
- Coordinate transfer of data to/from CROs and other outside collaborators
- Work with wet-lab scientists to manage instrument data and data in electronic lab notebooks
- Support development of data delivery/data visualization applications
- Manage and administer FL69’s AWS environment
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Informatics, Computer Science, Data Science or other related discipline
- 4-6+ years experience in data engineering/research informatics in the life sciences
- Demonstrated proficiency with cloud development (AWS strongly preferred) using infrastructure-as-code frameworks
- Proficiency in designing, managing, and versioning cloud-based databases
- Experience integrating multi-omic datasets
- Experience with data management and pipeline support for NGS and/or proteomics
- Experience building processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency and workload management
- Strong DevOps, project management and organization skills
- Strong technical communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with workflow orchestration software (Nextflow, SnakeMake, etc) and deploying it in cloud environments such as AWS Batch
- Experience with ELN/LIMS (Benchling preferred)
- Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with metadata management including controlled vocabulary/ontology utilization
