Mission:

Flagship Labs 63 Inc. (FL63) is a privately held, well-funded, early-stage platform biotechnology company that is leveraging emerging insights in RNA biology to develop a novel class of human therapeutics.

FL63 was founded by Flagship Pioneering, an innovation enterprise that conceives, resources and grows first-in-category life science companies. The firm’s institutional innovation foundry, Flagship Labs, is where teams of scientific entrepreneurs systematically evolve ideas and turn previously undiscovered areas of science into real-world ventures. Flagship has created over 100 scientific ventures resulting in >$19 billion in aggregate value, 500+ issued patents, and >50 clinical trials for novel therapeutic agents. Flagship’s portfolio companies include Moderna, Rubius Therapeutics, and Indigo Agriculture.

FL63 is a highly dynamic, entrepreneurial and innovation-driven organization seeking to hire an exceptional scientist to join our growing team. A successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in computational biology, bioinformatics, genomics or a related field, an additional 3+ years of relevant experience, and a proven track-record of scientific excellence as evidenced by a strong publication and/or patent record. The candidate’s career goals, technical skills, and core competencies should be aligned with the description below.

Key Outcomes:

  1. Lead the strategy and analytical integration of data streams from in vitro, cell-based, and multi-omic assays to generate unique inferences for hypothesis generation and subsequent wet lab testing in an iterative fashion.
  2. Conceive and craft scientific pipelines to generate new insights from high-throughput screening, mechanism-of-action, and molecular profiling data in an underexplored biological field.
  3. Rapidly prototype analysis strategies for novel NGS methods in close collaboration with molecular biologists.
  4. Build interactive plots and GUIs to promote data accessibility for exploration by the entire team; craft innovative data visualizations and communicate complex results to interdisciplinary audiences.
  5. Act as a champion for robust and generalized code, computational documentation, and reproducibility.
  6. Continually cultivate scientific/technical expertise through critical review of the scientific literature, attending external conferences, and developing relationships with key opinion leaders.
  7. Work effectively with a cross-functional biology, technology, and chemistry team to contribute to the vision, strategy, and tactics of the organization.

Required Skills:

  1. Proven track-record in establishing robust computation biology workflows to generate high quality hypotheses for wet lab testing through integration of genomic, next generation sequencing (NGS) and other relevant data sets.
  2. Deep understanding of statistical and algorithmic principles in data science with fluency in coding languages most relevant to biology & drug discovery (e.g. Python, R).
  3. Expert knowledge of current and emerging public genomics & proteomics data sets with a focus on rare disease.
  4. Expertise in NGS data analysis (i.e. Illumina, Nanopore) including execution of standard workflows and development of novel methods.
  5. Clear understanding of cloud-based computing environments with a focus on AWS environment.
  6. Familiarity with coding standards and best practices with a commitment to reproducible computational research.
  7. Strong data visualization and communication skills with the ability to clearly explain the implications of complex data sets and drive decision-making.

Preferred Skills:

  1. Established track record in the RNA biology field.
  2. Expertise in specialized RNA-centric NGS methods including Ribo-seq, RIP-seq, eCLIP, and RNA chemical probing (e.g. SHAPE-MaP).
  3. Experience with Docker, container registries, and workflow languages (e.g. Snakemake, Nextflow).
  4. Experience developing web-based or stand-alone GUI programs for data visualization (i.e. Dash, Flask, RShiny, D3).
