Generate Biomedicines is looking for an individual to join its growing Biologics Production and Characterization group (BPC). The BPC uses automation and high-throughput platforms to drive the production and characterization of therapeutic biologics.

The individual will contribute to workflows that include high-throughput protein expression, purification, and characterization at small-to-medium scales. They will work collaboratively within BPC to deliver purified and characterized proteins, in support of multiple programs and platforms across Generate Biomedicines. Their work will focus primarily on the production and characterization of antibodies, and occasionally on alternative therapeutic modalities.

The individual will also perform high-throughput biophysical methods that characterize protein biophysical properties (e.g., size, purity, aggregation and thermostability). They will be responsible for optimizing throughput, designing experiments with the help of their supervisor, analyzing data and reporting back to the team, maintaining detailed records, and generating standard operating procedures.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Execution and optimization of high-throughput automated protein expression and purification workflows - using liquid handling robots, automated purification equipment, and Cytiva AKTA systems.
  • Using protein quality control and biophysical characterization methods to assess purity, concentration, stability, non-specificity, etc. of proteins - employing a variety of analytical equipment such as HPLC, Uncle, GX II, and Lunatic.
  • Detailed documentation of data on our internal LIMS systems, ELNs, and SOPs
  • Culture of mammalian cell lines and transient protein expression

Preferred skills:

  • Technical Experience with:
    • Operation of liquid handling robots, HPLCs and FPLCs
    • Protein characterization methodologies (eg: HPLC-based chromatographic methods for purity, hydrophobicity and charged variants assessments, purity methods using CE based equipment)
    • Protein expression via mammalian transient transfection
    • Protein purification - chromatography-based methods
  • Deep understanding of:
    • Protein expression and purification
    • Antibody characterization
  • Excellent attention to detail, documentation, and communication skills

Minimum Education Experience: B.S

Minimum Industry Experience: 0.5-2 years in Biotech/Pharma
