Our Merchandise team works with supplier partners and store teams on category ranging, buying, pricing and promotions so we can get the right products on the right shelves at the right time for our customers.
Te Tūranga – About the role
This is the role you’ve been waiting for if you’re looking to build a career in category management. As a Category Assistant, you’ll learn the ropes of category and what makes supermarkets tick.
Working across our Fresh Produce Category, working closely with the Business and Category Manager, you’ll look after promotions for New World, ensuring everything flows through to point of sale and that imagery is correct in correct on mailers. You’ll also provide admin support - creating purchase orders and store orders and ensuring there are no issues such as product shortages orders are sent to be picked.
You’ll also get amongst:
· Managing the article creation process, confirming key information and gaining appropriate approvals and then maintaining data, updating and communicating product changes
· Assisting in preparation and analysis of Category Review, Joint Business plan and Annual plans
· Responding to all relevant store queries.
· Maintain promotional annual plans with changes in product and price.
Hours of work are Monday – Friday, 6:00am – 2:30pm with rostered weekend work 1 in 3 weekends.

He kōrero mōu - About you
You’ll know your apples from pears and your cauliflower from broccoli. Comfortable with high levels of administration, you’ll be good with processes and be a bit of an analytical data whizz who is skilled in Excel with an eye for detail. You’ll be someone who is awesome with time management and able to prioritise a moving task list.
You’ll also have:
· Proven ability to be agile and pick things up quickly
· Impressive communication skills
· Confident with the ability to build strong and meaningful relationships internally and with our suppliers and internal teams
· Ability to manage your time and prioritise effectively
· The enthusiasm, drive and willingness to learn and develop
