We are seeking an Instructor Manager. This person will be responsible for our part-time instructors and courses with a focus on hiring, training, coaching, and day-to-day management. The Instructor Manager is a crucial role - this person is responsible for managing and coaching our best-in-class practitioners from a variety of fields including data science, software development and design. Proper onboarding and training of instructors is crucial. Most importantly, the instructor manager must always remember that our instructors are changing lives in the classroom each day: this is both  an exciting and difficult challenge. Thus, being an empathetic leader is key to the success of this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage full-time and/or part-time course instructors 
    • Identify top instructional talent (and instructional associate talent) and operate as the hiring manager in their recruitment process to ensure the best practitioners are hired for instructional roles
    • Manage retention, ongoing professional development, and growth of these positions
    • Facilitate successful completion of all online and in-person instructor training for new and current instructors
    • Onboard instructors to curriculum and tools and set expectations for what success looks like in each of our product lines
    • Evaluate instructors and be accountable for instructor growth and performance
    • Guide instructors through mediating conflict and defusing challenging student situations in a positive, empathetic and professional manner
    • Provide instructional coaching to instructors on a consistent basis 
  • Manage and be accountable for course quality
    • Monitor and manage course quality and progress by regularly reviewing student feedback; formulate action plans based on data
    • Work with instructors to strategize solutions for students who have unique learning needs, including the creation of student success plans.
  • Lead quality large group professional development
  • Participate in global meetings with manager counterparts across campuses 

 Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proficient in instructional best practices including lesson planning, differentiation, assessments, student data analysis, and the creation of strong classroom climates.
  • Proven ability to effectively give constructive, positive feedback to people of diverse professional and personal backgrounds.
  • Prior experience managing multiple people or teams 
  • Highly organized and confident managing multiple instructors and projects simultaneously
  • A “growth mindset” attitude towards teaching as a craft 
  • High emotional intelligence; an ability to empathize with others
  • Available to work in the evenings (until 7:30pm) twice per week.

Nice to Have: 

  • Experience teaching and/or in school leadership (adult learning or K-12) and ability to relate to instructors as a practitioner 
  • Familiarity with or subject matter expertise in one or more of the disciplines we teach
