Feature Lifecycle


GitHub is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to join our Feature Lifecycle team and enable evidence-based feature delivery (internally facing) and context-aware feature discovery (externally facing). This role will focus on building and maintaining our internal feature management tools (feature flags, feature preview, and experiments) and our core UX (navigation, commands, and GitHub markdown). This team provides platform services to accelerate feature teams across our cloud and enterprise deployment targets for the primary GitHub application and distributed services.

Responsibilities:

  • Cultivate an environment where team members are empowered and demonstrate a strong sense of ownership and belonging.
  • Foster a collaborative and open culture.
  • Meet with team members on a regular basis to support day-to-day work.
  • Coach and develop your team. Work to grow the team through candid, ongoing feedback, mentoring, and career development.
  • Lead successful projects, ensuring high quality and timely delivery of features.
  • Ensure the team builds software that is architecturally consistent and that follows operational best practices.
  • Drive clarity with the team, fostering clear communication, understanding, and process improvements.
  • Work with the product and partner teams across the organization to enable successful delivery.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and opportunities to encourage the growth of others.

Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of experience designing, developing, and shipping high-quality software at scale.
  • 2+ years of engineering people management experience.
  • Track record of working in complex and high impact services at scale and/or distributed systems.
  • Experience with hiring and building a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, planning, and organization.
  • Experience managing a distributed team.

Bonus:

  • Experience building platform systems and developer tooling frameworks.
  • Experience developing tools for the feature management lifecycle.
  • You have managed managers before and want to work closer to the action again.
