GitHub is changing the way the world builds and secures software, and we want you to help build GitHub!

Software today is tremendously interconnected, with most projects having tens or hundreds of direct and transitive dependencies. Our Software Supply Chain teams work on tools that make it easy to understand your dependencies and help detect and fix any security vulnerabilities introduced by your dependencies. We work to provide all developers with the tools they need to consume open source confidently and give maintainers and contributors the ability to secure open source software effortlessly.

We’re looking for a software engineer to help accelerate our mission to secure the world's software!

In this role, you will have the unique opportunity to join a globally distributed, diverse and passionate team. You’ll help create and maintain features and experiences impacting millions of developers worldwide, and your work will have direct impact on the security and sustainability of the Open Source ecosystem.

In your first 30 days, you can expect to foster a relationship with the team, learn how to ship a small feature or bugfix, end-to-end, and begin to understand the application architecture.

In your first 90 days, you can expect to have shipped several small features and bugfixes, participated in code review, design discussions, and start to feel more comfortable owning a bigger feature from design to completion.

You might be a good fit if:

  • You are comfortable working in a distributed environment, using written communication to work with colleagues around the world.
  • You’re a customer focused engineer who enjoys building a deep understanding of users and delivering features that directly address their needs.
  • You are kind and you understand there’s more to building software than just writing code.
  • You are comfortable learning to work in a distributed Rails codebase with a large MySQL cluster and data pipeline.
  • You have an interest or expertise in package managers, and their inner workings.
  • You’ve ever been curious how different languages handle dependency management, resolution, and lock files.

Ability to meet GitHub, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:  Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft, GitHub’s parent company, Cloud Screen upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
