This is a fully remote role

The DevOps Engineer - Orchestration is critical to the Kraken platform and infrastructure. You are smart, highly skilled, and self-motivated, with a penchant for out-of-the-box thinking. You are a developer who is interested in deployment and network operations, or you're already somewhere on the journey to being a fully fledged DevOps practitioner.

You'll be joining the production engineering team to provide software engineering and cloud infrastructure support and advice across the public-facing businesses, as well as becoming part of the wider DevSecOps team, and the global (and world-class) Security, IT and DevOps team.
 
You'll become a member of a 55+ FTE DevSecOps team, and will be expected to contribute and learn across the full cloud engineering stack. You will be (or will become) a "T-shaped" individual with enormous potential to further your career in the burgeoning DevSecOps domain, with the guidance of industry leaders in Security and DevOps, and alongside a mature team of true polyglots and talented microservices developers.

Responsibilities

  • Write good quality policies, procedures and technical documentation
  • Nurture security awareness in the organization, produce material to support this, and relate this to the current threat landscape
  • Be familiar with risks introduced to organization by third parties, and processes to mitigate these;
  • Take a risk-based approach to all facets of information security
  • Have a "finger on the pulse" of current challenges and exploits in the ecosystem
  • Promote technical vision for containerized product development, deployment, and operationalization
  • Drive a metrics-driven culture and software delivery process using data to measure overall system quality
  • Collaborate in the planning phase of any new or modified business operation;
  • Establish/maintain security guidelines, practices, and department procedures;
  • Design clusters orchestrated in such way to guarantee a high degree of reliability, security, and scalability
  • Provide support, improve, and implement container orchestrators' internal components and applications on top of multiple clusters
  • Troubleshoot and triage issues as they arise
  • Work closely with various teams across the organization, including the security team, development team, and operations team for any container platform requests
  • Execute with minimal technical supervision, embrace reliability constraints, and be proactive in contributing improvements to the platform
  • Be an active participant in a truly world class global security organization.
  • Requirements

  • Demonstrated understanding of core Kubernetes and/or Hashicorp Nomad solution architecture and the extended landscape of tools and services
  • Understanding of K8S pipeline and deployment patterns
  • Has deep knowledge of mixed operating system environments, structured, non-structured and distributed data platforms
  • Has strong analytical skills as applied to information technology, and can work independently of others in an assignment
  • Can work directly with project managers, infrastructure engineers and software developers
  • Raises awareness on issues that can negatively impact delivering on time and to set specifications
  • Strong experience with identifying and remediating different orchestrators' vulnerabilities
  • Experience with maintenance such as Kubernetes and/or Nomad patches and upgrades
  • Strong implementation experience in public cloud and on prem container services
  • Ability to code/script in Python/Shell/Golang
  • Comprehensive DevOps skills including experience with source, artifacts, orchestration, configuration, and secret management in CI/CD
  • Infrastructure & application monitoring experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
