The role in a nutshell

In this role you'll help drive Luno’s first line compliance efforts across the globe. You make sure we know who our customers are, identify and monitor high risk customers and activity and report any suspicious activity to the necessary authorities. You’ll lead the global Compliance Operations team, team up with the other members of the Financial Crime team and work closely with our product, engineering and other regional teams to excel in this mission.

Your mission will involve

• Leading the broader Compliance Operations Team with specific focus to hire, mentor and scale a team of talented Compliance Analysts to develop their technical skills and contribute to a high-quality and high performing team. 
• Providing subject matter expertise to all areas of the business, including Customer Success and Product development
• Continuously building and maintaining strong and beneficial relationships with financial institutions and other third parties
• Working with the global Compliance Advisory team to ensure Luno continues to adhere to any new or existing regulatory obligations in the region
• Providing on-the-ground support in areas such as KYC, AML, Enhanced Due Diligence, transaction monitoring, investigation of suspicious transactions and activity, and STR/SAR filing with the relevant authorities.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and implement new tools and features.
• Provide input into new products and processes from a Compliance perspective 
• Establish and continuously review and optimise Compliance Operations processes to ensure the most efficient delivery of targets and objectives
• Oversee the automation of Compliance Operations processes to improve internal workflows and the customer experience
• Assist in the governance of the team by establishing and maintaining guidelines and policies
• Represent the Compliance Operations team in operations and other stakeholder meetings as required
• Oversee the quality of work performed by the team 
• Create and maintain relevant dashboards and metrics for the team
• QA the effectiveness of the Financial Crime team.
• Preparing reports which measure the effectiveness of the team
• Assist with requests for information relating to police investigations

‘The ideal Lunaut for this role’ will have 

• A relevant Bachelor’s degree with minimum 5 years Compliance experience, 2 of them in a team leadership role
• Dealt with compliance for a fintech, payments or financial services brand, across multiple markets
• Solid interpersonal, project management and prioritisation skills. 
• Unfazed by change
• A strong sense of responsibility and very high level of integrity
• A 'can do' attitude, creativity and a passion for the crypto space!
• A legal background is advantageous and preference will be given to ACAMS certified candidates

In your first three months, you will

• Support the execution of all key milestones and launches (product and country)
• Identify initiatives across our global operations to improve our mission
• Lead and mentor the compliance operations team
• Assist the broader team in developing and delivering world class compliance
