The world is changing. We all want something different.

At Luno, we see you as an individual, and we want to unleash your potential and empower you to become the best possible version of yourself.

Luno welcomes crypto lovers and crypto newbies. You - just like everyone in the world - are on your own unique crypto-learning journey.

We are a mission-driven cryptocurrency company that is building more open and equal access to the future of money. You don’t have to know lots about crypto to be interested in joining us, you just have to feel that upgrading the world to a fairer financial system matters, and that you’d like to be part of this global change. We’re a passionate and committed team taking on a challenge of epic proportions. Like the first moon landing, it requires a special kind of people working together with unusual skill, focus and determination. We need the best team on board for our mission.

If that sounds like a culture you’d thrive in, then we are excited to hear from you.

A little about us

  • Luno means moon in Esperanto, we chose the name because at night, wherever you are in the world, you look up at the same moon. We believe in the power of working together, as one team, across borders, with clear focus and shared purpose.
  • Our popular mobile app and website helps people around the world grow and manage their money using the world's most mature cryptocurrencies: Bitcoin, Ethereum and USDC. We’ve processed over $21 billion to date.
  • Over 7 million customers across 40 countries have chosen to hold their crypto wallets on Luno because we offer a delightfully simple experience and bank-grade security.
  • We're part of the Digital Currency Group, named in 2021 as one of TIME magazine’s 100 Most Influential Companies, in the “Disruptors” category alongside Tesla, AirBnB, SpaceX, Peloton. TIME noted that DCG is “mainstreaming cryptocurrency”.
  • We’re proud to be one of the world’s most international cryptocurrency teams, with colleagues from 43 different nationalities working across South Africa, Indonesia, the United Kingdom, Malaysia, Nigeria, Australia and Singapore. Financial inclusion is part of our mission, but on a deeper level, inclusion is a way of life, and a way of work for us. It is part of who we are as a company, and a group of human individuals.

This role in a nutshell:

Every day, the People team strives to create the best place to work for mission-driven people. As a key part of our business, our team makes sure that Luno attracts, hires and retains the best talent. Our team consists of passionate individuals who maintain their networks in specific industries to ensure that we bring what’s going on ‘out there’ back into Luno in support of our mission, and because we are immersed in the external talent pool, we are able to connect with the brightest candidates who are excited about our vision. We see ourselves as the culture guardians, and strive to deliver the best possible employee experience to all Lunauts and candidates. Onboarding our monthly group of Newnauts, encouraging continuous skills development and personal growth, and partnering with our people leaders to achieve their goals, are just a few of the things we do to make coming in to work the highlight of your day.

This is a brand new role, in a brand new region for Luno. We are just about to launch in the US and we have huge ambitions! We are looking for an experienced Senior People Partner to work in partnership with our General Manager - US to build the foundations of our US team. This will include everything from setting up our people infrastructure (payroll & benefits), through to creating an awesome workplace culture, and then identifying and building our people experience to set the US region up for success as we scale.

You will be part of Kelly Jackson's team, meet her here

Your mission will involve:

  • Building the people and culture experience in the US by collaborating with the global People team and General Manager - US
  • Developing strong relationships with local leadership and employees (Lunauts) to ensure that the region’s goals are supported through the hiring, development and retention of the US team
  • Applying your in-depth understanding of the employee life cycle and local cultural norms to ensure you are tailoring our people experiences within Luno to be the best they can be locally
  • Delighting our candidates as the person responsible for the full recruitment life cycle for our roles in the US region
  • Proactively identifying barriers to high performance and engagement and creating  solutions, in partnership with management and internal stakeholders (onboarding, setting new starters up for success, development, moves, offboarding etc)
  • Suggesting & executing initiatives or ideas to build upon our culture, including creating a trusted community of Lunauts who are focused on one mission, one team outcomes
  • Actively working towards improving employee engagement in partnership with management, employees and stakeholders
  • Supporting your region with change management and company wide initiatives from growth and development to wellbeing
  • Managing payroll, benefits and any statutory filings

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Experience in collaborating with senior executives in delivering a people agenda that supports their region’s success and an ability to build trusted relationships, credibility and influence
  • Experience in building an innovative, people-first, people function from the ground up, preferably in a fast paced, changeable working environment
  • An ability to coach, mentor and advise at all levels within Luno, especially as our US team will largely new to Luno and include roles at all levels of seniority
  • Experience with people analytics, process improvements and policy development, using data to identify areas of opportunity and concern and which will inform solutions

In your first six months, you will:

  • Help to establish the culture for the US office in conjunction with the General Manager - US
  • Set up and establish the payroll and benefits, transitioning our team away from our parent company’s payroll
  • Be integral to the hiring of the first US team - leading the recruitment efforts for the region
  • Establish our key US employee experiences and processes which are required
  • Partner with management across the entire employee journey, especially in setting new starters up for success
  • Support, and be involved in the wider People Team’s roadmap of projects as part of our mission to upgrade the world of work
