About the team:
Our mission is to provide an amazing fraud framework and response to our business, partners, and customers in dealing with fraud related matters. We do this by responding to any fraud related incidents swiftly and in a coordinated way. We are the front line of Financial Crime and we ensure that fraud cases are dealt with appropriately and on time. We keep the bad guys out and the good guys in. We operate globally and are centralised in South Africa.
The role in a nutshell:
As a Senior Financial Crime Investigator, you’ll be involved in preventing financial crimes like fraud, money laundering and account takeovers from occurring on Luno. You will report to our Manager Investigations in South Africa. You’ll also be working closely with other Financial Crime team members to help support cross-department operational initiatives to detect and prevent abuse.
You are passionate about cryptocurrencies and have a good understanding of their role in the overall fraud and Financial Crime landscape. In your role you will be setting the standard for Luno’s Financial Crime team in the US.
Your mission will be:
- Drive comprehensive investigations into fraud, money laundering and account takeovers to completion;
- Liaise between various internal and external stakeholders including legal, law enforcement, investigators, banks and victims;
- Conduct root cause analyses of incidents in order to develop strategies to prevent recurrences;
- Play a key role in the development of fraud policies, procedures and tools;
- Be a point of escalation for financial crime investigations;
- Proactively identify and monitor fraud patterns;
- Manage time sensitive workflows across competing priorities;
- Interact with customers to understand unusual account activity;
- Identify areas of improvement in Luno’s products to ensure our continued customer security;
- Work with a high degree of independence;
- Prepare regular and ad-hoc reports;
- Mentoring and/or training of junior team members
A little about you:
- A BA, BSc BComm or other relevant qualification from an accredited college/university
- 3-5 years’ relevant work experience (involving money laundering, fraud and / or account takeovers)
- Experience investigating complex financial crimes within the cryptocurrency/blockchain domain
- A can do, get things done attitude
- An existing, valid work permit for the United States, if you’re not a US citizen
- Willing to work in the New York metropolitan area and come into the office regularly for the first few months
- Attention to detail, strong sense of responsibility and very high level of integrity
- Ability to take charge in critical situations and work on resolving problems
- Entrepreneurial, strong sense of responsibility and very high level of integrity
- Solid interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills
- Friendly, transparent, articulate and driven to succeed
- Have any additional qualifications, such as CAMS or CFE
