The role in a nutshell

In this role, you’ll be providing support to the Tax Analyst - International Tax Reporting, by controlling the transfer pricing and international tax affairs ensuring that Luno meets its tax obligations. The role is based in Luno’s Tax team that forms part of Luno’s broader Finance team.

Your mission will involve:

  • Ensure the local files and master file are up to date by monitoring and working with the wider Luno team to ensure all changes are taken into consideration in transfer pricing policies and that transactions are appropriately and consistently described in the relevant transfer pricing documentation.
  • Work with the wider Luno team to ensure intercompany agreements are in place and updated that are required to be entered into to support all intercompany transactions.
  • Review intercompany recharge calculations to ensure the transfer pricing policy is accurately and consistently applied and supporting documentation is in place.
  • Ensure that withholding tax compliance in respect of related cross border charges are addressed, taking into account relief provided by double tax agreements.
  • Monitor intercompany loan transactions and balances and ensure that exchange control implications are considered and supporting documentation is in place.
  • Other special tax related projects or tax compliance, e.g. tax incentives, tax considerations for launching into a new country, any product changes required due to tax legislation, e.g. digital taxes.
  • Monitoring global transfer pricing and international tax developments and analyse the potential impacts on the Luno group.
  • Along with the Luno Tax team: 
    • Assist in the management of tax information reporting compliance.
    • Prepare / review and/manage the income tax provisions and provisional taxes.
    • Ensure accurate annual financial statement disclosure of corporate tax liabilities. Ensure accurate disclosure of related parties notes in annual financial statements and ensure that there is no ambiguity relating to transactions that have been entered into, which could give rise to queries from tax authorities.
    • Ensure that tax compliance is met, which includes corporate tax, indirect tax and transfer pricing returns. The tax compliance is supported by external service providers. 
    • Assist in ensuring compliance with relevant in-country digital services tax legislation.
    • Respond to and finalise transfer pricing or international tax controversy matters and/or investigations. 
    • Actively manage the recovery of any amount that is due by any tax authority.

‘The ideal Lunaut for this role, will have’:

Essential skills

  • Postgraduate qualification in Taxation or CA (SA)
  • Minimum of 5 years transfer pricing and international tax experience in a multinational company or for clients.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to build strong, mutually respectful relationships with diverse teams, and to deal with multiple different teams, countries and issues on any given day.

Nice-to-haves

  • Masters Degree in Taxation.
  • Transfer pricing and international tax experience in South Africa, Indonesia, the United Kingdom, Malaysia, Nigeria, Australia and Singapore.
  • International indirect tax experience.
  • An interest in and enthusiasm for crypto.
