The Head of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) plays an essential role in growing talent in our business through collaboration with our staff and accountability to our DEIB strategic goals. You know how to be curious about business opportunities and how to be real with feedback and support as you launch and maintain company-wide programs that advance our DEIB agenda internally and externally. 

You are responsible for aligning our DEIB strategy with the business strategy and for ensuring that all leadership is engaged in DEIB progress in their respective departments with clear goals, accountability, communication and transparency. Your role is both strategic and grass roots as you work to connect the right people to the right programs and ensure our intentions match our impact through strong metrics and listening to our staff.

Reporting to the COO, the Head of DEIB has the following RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Define, articulate, and communicate Lush’s long-term DEIB strategy and how it integrates into our business philosophies; create a framework that enables accountability, communication and transparency
  • Propose and manage D&I training needs in coordination with the People & Culture and Learning and Development Teams and DEIB and Training Specialists to foster a culture of belonging across the business
  • Design, build and launch strategic programs that establish and infuse DEIB throughout all aspects of our employee experience and business practices
  • Use data to direct decisions and create metrics to measure the effectiveness of DEIB initiatives and support business unit goal-setting and support
  • Propose and ensure approval of and manage DEIB budgeting and resource needs in alignment with our DEIB goals
  • Hire, train and support DEIB support specialists in the business, as well a key business partners including HR, Recruitment, Training, and Ethics
  • Partner with the People & Culture team to help develop and drive strategic diversity and inclusion direction, coaching, and counsel on programs, people strategies, policies and procedures, conflict resolution, change management, and organizational development to promote an inclusive culture and fair and equitable work environment
  • Collaborate, influence and lead change initiatives with multiple stakeholders, specifically senior leadership, so that leaders are equipped to support change in their business areas 
  • Help develop and maintain processes and systems to hold leaders accountable for their support, implementation and DEIB in their divisions and departments, ultimately creating a the foundation for DEIB to live naturally and systemically within the business
  • Recognize and respond to regional and department needs by providing tailored strategies and solutions to enable appropriate cultural awareness and change
  • Help recognize and respond to regional and local retail diversity needs, issues and initiatives
  • Collaborate with internal and external communications to increase company-wide awareness, commitment and accountability for the employee experience and transparency to action plans across the business
  • Ensure measurable goals are communicated, necessary training provided and follow up reporting deliveredwith qualitative and quantitative insights that drive recommendations to senior leadership  
  • Act as a trusted advisor to team members at all levels on matters regarding DEIB
  • Design support and manage company-wide programs aimed at increasing diversity and equity across the business
  • Alignment and support internally for campaigns and other internal and external initiatives that require participation and support from our staff

 

The Head of DEIB brings the following QUALIFICATIONS: 

Required: 

  • 10+ years progressive experience working with people systems at a senior level
  • 5+ years proven project management and strategic leadership experience 
  • 3+ years direct involvement with DEIB initiatives
  • Demonstrated commitment to learning and unlearning as trends and best practices evolve in the DEIB space
  • Strong, proven background partnering with HR business leaders on people policy and practices
  • Experience working cross-functionally on company-wide projects
  • Senior expertise working across organizational levels for company-wide implementations
  • Personal and professional understanding of privilege, power structures and social justice dynamics
  • Ability to speak truth to power
  • Outstanding ability to build meaningful relationships with key stakeholders across all business units 

 Preferred: 

  • Strong reporting and presentation skills
  • Outstanding communications background, internally and externally
  • Business unit/department leadership experience 
  • Team/Departmental budget oversight and management experience 
  • Experience building, developing and engaging a collaborative team
  • Knowledge and experience in branding and employer/employee marketing
  • Experience in DEIB leadership, practice and learning
  • Experience in cross cultural communication, multi-lingual
