As a member of the Office of Safety and Compliance, you’ll drive the safety of our autonomous vehicle efforts and thereby revolutionize transportation.  You will empower our team to deliver complex projects to ensure safety and compliance, while coordinating interactions with other teams and external organizations.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop safety cases for vehicle platforms, system, and sub-systems, including driving technical safety requirements based on defined safety goals for the sub-systems
  • Support FMEDA, DFMEA, FTA and DFA technical work products to ensure that ASIL metrics are being met
  • Define safety and compliance testing requirements for vehicle-level, as well as hardware and software for sub-systems, working closely with the engineering and testing teams to ensure correct implementation
  • Be an active participant in autonomous vehicle sub-system development, working closely with both hardware and software teams in supporting functionality definition from a safety perspective
  • Serve as Lyft representative with outside organizations and partnerships on AV safety, including innovating for AV safety standards, best practices, and metrics
  • Perform complex safety incident investigations, drive resolution, and create and maintain appropriately-documented incident and issue reports 
  • Provide input and resolve issues in coordination with safety-related committees
  • Ensure AV platforms meet FMVSS regulations, state codes and other applicable standards and regulations
  • Maintain exhaustive “source-of-truth” list of technical compliance requirements
  • Conduct technical engineering reviews and audits to evaluate compliance to tech requirements for new and existing products
  • Resolve potential non-compliance issues by coordinating with LBS Engineering and Legal Compliance teams, and offering engineering-based solutions
  • Conduct engineering testing and analysis to determine compliance 
  • Create and maintain documentation of compliance
  • Work with Legal Compliance office to coordinate tech compliance with operational and reporting compliance

Experience:

  • 3+ years in AV safety, technical compliance and standards development
  • Experience in AV functional safety and SOTIF approaches & related V&V methodology
  • Knowledge of FMVSS, SAE, ISO, and other standards, incl experience in using the ISO 26262, 21448 or the IEC 61508 standards 
  • Positive attitude and willingness to be hands-on to achieve goals, 
  • Self-motivated, and driven for self-development, works well in distributed environment,
  • Demonstrated good reading comprehension, technical writing, and communication skills
  • Effective organization and prioritization skills, Google Suite tools, Slack
  • Knowledge on conflict resolution is a plus
  • Occasional domestic and international travel, sometimes short-notice
  • Bachelor's (Required)
  • Masters (Preferred)
