As a Hardware Technician on the Lyft Bikes and Scooters Hardware team, you will collaborate and be involved in all phases of the engineering process from design to deployment. You will design and build test fixtures, execute tests, and analyze the results to validate components and subsystems of the complete hardware system design. You will also work with electrical engineers to root cause and troubleshoot designs that fail tests. You will work with engineers to implement bug prevention strategies, design for testability, and other quality standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Design prototype test hardware, circuitry and fixtures
  • Provide delicate or high precision re-work of PCBs, PCBAs and electronic assemblies
  • Perform Hardware functional testing, including testing with environmental chambers, DAQs, power supplies, AC/DC loads, oscilloscopes, among other lab equipment
  • Create ECAD components and footprints, and maintain ECAD library/database
  • Track and document detailed test reports to be shared with the engineering team
  • Assist Electrical Engineering team with failure analysis and root cause efforts 

Experience:

  • BA/BS or 3 years of experience as a hardware technician or similar in lieu of a degree
  • Strong electrical aptitude and eagerness to learn
  • Design and assembly of wiring harnesses
  • Light fabrication or modification of electrical enclosures
  • PCB level assembly and rework of SMT and PTH components
  • Knowledge of lab equipment for testing and debugging, e.g oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, loads, and optical inspection equipment 
  • Experience using ECAD tools (such as Altium) to create components and footprints, and read schematics and layouts
  • Experience making and following SOPs in either MS suite or Gdocs 
  • Experience with process development and the ability to translate into written documentation 
  • Experience in basic Linux and/or Windows system administration
