The Open Platform team is expanding Lyft's transportation platform to autonomous vehicles. With Lyft’s open platform, the world's best car manufacturers and self-driving systems (including the one developed at Lyft’s own Level 5 engineering center) can plug into our network of over one million rides per day. Access to a diverse set of real-life scenarios helps partners develop their systems around actual experiences and behaviors. Smart dispatching ensures the right vehicle is always dispatched for the right routes and conditions. 

Responsibilities:

  • Hire, onboard, and lead a team of talented engineers who share Lyft’s vision and believe that Autonomous is a key part of achieving it
  • Mentor and guide the professional and technical development of your team members. Help develop their careers by arranging the projects tailored to their skill levels, personalities, work styles, and professional goals
  • Build teams that are collaborative, inclusive, and respectful of each other
  • Push the envelope on what is feasible, while engaging your cross organizational peers such as product management, data science, business development, legal, and more 
  • Embrace team vision, translate it into a roadmap, and work with the team on execution
  • Represent Lyft in high stakes technical discussion with external partners

Experience:

  • You have a technical background and are able to contribute to planning and design discussions. That usually comes with a Bachelors in CS, but doesn’t have to
  • You have 6+ years of relevant professional experience, with 3+ years in people management. You are still hands on, yet have clearly chose management as a career path 
  • You have experience with full stack of modern mobile application: iOS, Android, web, microservices, datastores, analytics, and data science
  • You can motivate a team, earn their respect, and instill a strong sense of ownership
  • You thrive during times of uncertainty, and enjoy bringing order and structure into an unstructured world
  • Prior technical experience with Python, Go, Swift, Kotlin, or similar programming languages. 
  • Prior experience in UI and backend software engineering.
