The Field Quality Engineering team’s mission is to improve customer experience of Lyft products by reducing field issues; in collaboration with large cross-section of other engineering and operations teams.  This hands-on role has duties focused on understanding of field performance, failure analysis and root cause activities.

An effective Field Quality Engineer will need to be intimately familiar with the detailed behavior of Lyft's micro-mobility products and the tools and equipment used in their design, manufacture and maintenance. They will work with other Engineering and Operations teams to quickly mitigate and implement countermeasures of field issues to improve quality, reliability, durability of the products.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with engineering, operations and science teams to create and support the tools and processes necessary to track field performance.
  • Monitor products field performance, identify trending issues. Prioritize based on severity, occurrence, safety and/or cost of each failure mode.
  • Detailed failure analysis, identifying root-cause of problems across multiple disciplines (mechanical, electrical, firmware).  Perform board-level debugging to isolate faults for physical FA. Support detailed mechanical FA. Perform source code level debugging
  • Work closely with Supplier Industrialization Engineering (SIE), Product Engineering and Test Engineering teams to apply manufacturing knowledge to drive containment and corrective action implementation into production
  • Communicate field performance of the engineering system, gather buy-in from engineering peers and leadership on improvement priorities and urgency
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities, and take preventive actions for potential failure modes
  • Share Lessons Learned from previous field issues; Provide upfront feedback by participating in design reviews to ensure product performance, reliability, and manufacturability issues are identified and risks mitigated. (DFMEAs)
  • Take part in ongoing optimization of the products and processes (performance, cost, technology)

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or similar fields required.
  • 5+ years of prior applicable experience desired; preferably in a hands on role such as Design Engineering / Failure Analysis / Quality / Service in consumer electronics or automotive.
  • Broad technical background with the ability to work with engineering, manufacturing, service, and suppliers across a wide variety of issues.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.  Ability to establish effective working relationships within Lyft cross functional teams.
  • Exceptional problem solving and Failure Analysis, strong attention to detail and analytical thinking.
  • Demonstrated success in applying statistical methods and tools to manage, synthesize, and interpret data.
  • Programming Languages & Tools: Python, Minitab, JMP or similar are a strong plus
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment a plus
