As an engineering manager in the Office of Safety and Compliance, you’ll drive the safety of our autonomous vehicle and micromobility vehicles and thereby revolutionize transportation. You will empower our team to deliver complex projects to ensure safety and compliance, while closely coordinating with other engineering, legal, and policy teams and external organizations.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify, develop, maintain and implement safety engineering policies, programs, and processes for Lyft’s automated vehicle and micromobility programs, in coordination with other Lyft offices including Level 5, Open Platform, AV Business Office, Governmental Affairs, Core Rideshare, Fleet, and Lyft Bikes and Scooters (LBS)
  • Work closely and cooperatively with L5 and LBS teams to innovate for AV safety & compliance engineering and develop a culture of safety across Lyft teams to maximize velocity of product development while ensuring customer, public, and employee safety
  • Develop an engineering Lyft-wide Safety Management Systems (SMS) to ensure organizational, quantitative risk management, safety assurance, and operational safety goals are met 
  • Manage engineers to develop safety cases for vehicle platforms, system, and sub-systems, including driving hazard analyses and technical safety requirements based on defined safety goals for the sub-systems
  • Serve as Lyft’s safety engineering technical lead with outside organizations and partnerships on AV and micromobility safety to drive Lyft’s business and technical strategy, including innovating for best practices, safety standards and metrics 
  • Proactively monitor and strategically influence the development of AV and micromobility safety regulations, standards, industry standards, and best practices, summarize, and communicate information to all Lyft offices
  • Perform complex safety incident investigations, drive resolution, and create and maintain appropriately-documented incident and issue reports 
  • Provide input and resolve issues in coordination with safety-related committees
  • Attend appropriate training to ensure professional development in the safety field
  • Conduct safety audits and make recommendations for process and content improvements
  • Work with Directors and Communications Teams to develop outward-facing safety messaging

Experience:

  • 5+ years or more experience in vehicle or product safety or compliance (federal, state and local)
  • Experience in AV functional safety and SOTIF approaches & related V&V methodology, or related fields (aviation, robotics, automotive, micromobility, etc)
  • Experience with FMVSS, SAE, ISO, UL, and other regulatory and technical standards, incl experience in using the ISO 26262, 21448 or the IEC 61508 standards
  • Experience managing teams or direct reports in engineering and safety disciplines
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant rules, regulations, and standards
  • Self-motivated, and driven for self-development, works well in distributed environment,
  • Demonstrated good reading comprehension, technical writing, and communication skills
  • Effective organization and prioritization skills, Google Suite tools, Slack
  • Experience in conflict resolution
  • Must be able to travel to various locations with short notice
