As part of the Mechanical Engineering Design Team, you will interact daily with mechanical, electrical and software engineers and managers. You will be a technical contributor with a deep understanding of the technology involved in the specification, design, integration, testing/qualification and manufacturing of cameras, lidars, radar, and high power compute systems for harsh environments. You will empower the team to support complex projects on time and within budget while coordinating interactions with other teams and vendors.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the mechanical engineering development of Lyft’s self driving vehicles
  • Mechanical design of Lyft’s autonomous vehicle sensor suite, interior integration, and compute assembly
  • Contribute to the overall design, analysis, documentation and functional validation of mechanical components, assemblies and vehicle integration
  • Collaboration with subject matter experts to integrate thermal, structural, dynamic, and aerodynamic considerations into complex multifunctional designs
  • Work cross functionally with Electrical, Firmware, Operations, Software, and Product teams to ensure essential product deliverables are met

Experience:

  • A minimum of 4 years of professional experience working in a fast paced mechanical product design environment. 
  • Bachelor’s of Science or Engineering in Mechanical Engineering or related field with
  • Experience in any of the following areas for products design: CAD, design for manufacturing, opto-mechanics, structural analysis, thermal analysis, environmental testing and product certification
  • Strong understanding of GD&T and precision design principles
  • Strong knowledge of material properties and applications
  • Experience designing and integrating equipment in an automotive platform
  • Experience in opto-mechanical design/high precision systems
  • Experience in optics designs, optics lab equipment and optics manufacturing
  • Experience in UAVs, robotics/automation, sensing technology integration and Artificial Intelligence/machine learning
