The Payments Team is the core of how Lyft operates. From enabling passengers to take rides to paying the drivers, we ensure frictionless interactions on our platform. The team is responsible for every dollar that moves through our acquiring partners, our networks, and our internal systems. The Payments team’s mission is to make payments more efficient, effective, and low-cost for Lyft and to open the payments industry to Lyft’s innovation. Trusted payment is fundamental to Lyft marketplace, and the Payments team is charged with ensuring all money flows through our payments system reliably and accurately. The engineering challenge and opportunity is to enable a superior and secure experience through the Lyft app for passengers and drivers resulting in a near instantaneous flow of funds for all participants. The Payments team has a history of enabling rich and creative features that set the standard for the entire sharing industry. In addition to launching new features, the Payments team is also the architect and owner of a robust and flexible payments platform which enables other teams at Lyft to leverage.

We’re looking for a rock-star to join in a fast-paced and transformational start-up to manage various relationships and programs with our payment processors, networks and internal business lines. Within Operations, we partner with our external vendors, along with our peers in Product, Engineering, Finance, and other cross-functional areas as part of a continuous feedback loop, so that we can deliver the best possible payments experience. This individual will work with cross-functional teams to manage multiple payment initiatives across the company, and will need to have a deep working knowledge of payment processes and systems in the US.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage day to day operations of payment performance and troubleshooting
  • Collaborate with other Payment teams to improve existing processes and highlight key issues impacting payment performance
  • Review/escalate incidents reported and prioritize severity in partnership with engineering and support organizations
  • Provide input into payment resolutions to solve issues and minimize recurrence 
  • Own, troubleshoot and resolve payment issues from beginning to end, working with engineering and external partners to troubleshoot and resolve issues in a systematic and timely fashion
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to optimize payment flows to increase revenue and manage costs
  • Collaborating with your manager and team to improve payment process and efficiency
  • Be the subject matter expert in the payment operations area and serve as a liaison across payment stakeholders

Experience:

  • BA/BS; degrees in analytical fields such as Information Science, Operations, Business Administration preferred
  • 2-4+ years of experience in the payment operations or finance process optimizations
  • A strong passion for Lyft’s mission and the ride sharing community
  • Ability to spot patterns, solve problems, and identify areas of opportunity
  • Experience with SQL a plus
  • Problem-solving passion and service orientation
  • History of effectively working with internal teams to build new capability and implement projects
  • Show independence and flexibility in dealing with multiple complex issues
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking and cross-functional team influence
  • Proven ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously
  • Composed, poised and professional demeanor in all situations
  • Being vocally self-critical

  • Payment expert on internal working of banking systems and card networks
