Lyft, Inc. is seeking a talented Environmental, Health and Safety Leader to launch our EHS organization by establishing best-practice policies, procedures, and trainings while driving zero safety incidents and non-compliances. Initial responsibilities will include site inspections, facility compliance, incident management training, launching site-based safety committees, and building an EHS team capable of supporting our teams across the country. The ideal candidate will possess significant experience designing, building, and implementing foundational EHS strategies that reduce the severity and frequency of workplace injuries while promoting a positive safety culture. They will have a strong working knowledge of OSHA compliance and local/state/national regulations.

The successful candidate will be part of a diverse team of legal, HR, facilities, safety, engineering, design, and operations professionals. They will be eager to build a world class EHS organization from the ground up by partnering with various stakeholders as Lyft’s resident EHS expert.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify both short and long-term strategies to cultivate Lyft’s EHS mission, vision, and culture
  • Lead, develop, implement, and maintain every aspect of an all-encompassing EHS organization
  • Build a team to provide effective support at locations across the country
  • Establish safety committees at every location
  • Create and maintain action plans for local leadership
  • Ensure facilities compliance with OSHA, local, state, and national regulations
  • Develop safety policies/procedures along with training to ensure understanding and implementation by leaders and team members
  • Enhance processes and policies including but not limited to incident management, injury reporting, workers’ comp administration, and more
  • Conduct incident investigations and lead post-accident problem solving
  • Provide day-to-day ergonomic support, role-specific training, and general safety coaching to team members
  • Administer right to know training and other critical onboarding topics for new hires
  • Provide avenues for specialized certifications (e.g. automotive painters)
  • Establish an EHS database to utilize data/analytics to maintain accurate safety records, analyze trends, and drive decision-making
  • Routine documentation, record keeping, hazard assessments, and safety audits
  • Serve as primary contact for all EHS related regulatory agencies, consultants, insurance carriers, and related vendors

Experience:

  • 7+ years of increasing responsibilities in safety and/or environmental programs in manufacturing, production, or service operations
  • BS/BA in technical disciplines related to Environmental Health and Safety, Ergonomics, Construction Management, and/or Architecture preferred
  • Certified Safety Professional or equivalent preferred
  • Proficiency in one of the leading EHS software platforms
  • Experience leading, creating, launching, and maintaining best-practice EHS strategies, programs, and goals
  • Familiarity working in a fast-paced, quickly evolving environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills while partnering with employees ranging from associate level to Directors and VPs
  • Analytical and problem solving skills
  • Extensive knowledge of local, regional, and national compliance and regulatory requirements
  • Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist, OSHA 30, and other industry-recognized occupational safety training and certifications
  • Proven leadership skills including coaching, training, and communications
  • Ability to travel frequently especially during the early stages of growing the EHS organization
