Development Manager – Developer Experience

Developer Experience Engineering is the group responsible for enabling developers, from small startups to G2K organizations, to build atop Okta’s Identity Platform swiftly and effortlessly. This organization will be at the tip of the spear from Engineering when it comes to providing a best in class experience to all external Okta Platform developers.

This is a newly created and strategic organization within Okta and has the attention of Okta’s founders as well as Engineering Leadership.

Responsibilities:

· Recruit, retain, mentor, and grow a globally distributed and talented group of diverse employees

· Lead scrum teams, engage in technical designs, discussions and help drive cohesive technical architecture

· Escalate and help mitigate risk (technical, product, personnel, SaaS operations)

· Interface with QA, Technical Support, Documentation, PM, TPM, TechOps and UX teams

· Leverage professional acumen to improve Okta’s technology, product and Engineering practices

· Influence in other areas of the Engineering (e.g. DevOps, Test Engineering, Security)

· Foster, enable and promote innovation and IP Protection

· Participate in relevant Engineering and Technical Operations workgroups and rotations to assure Okta’s service is always on!

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

· Significant prior professional experience building commercial developer platforms

· 10 plus years or more or progressively increasing responsibility roles in software engineering, with a strong background in software development as a developer

· Prior experience as a manager

· Experience working in Agile software development organizations leveraging continuous integration and deployment practices

· Solid grasp of modern software engineering principles and practices

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:

· Experience working on SaaS applications

· Experience working with Developer Platforms

· Knowledge or experience working in Security, Cryptography, or Authn & Authz

· Understanding of Identity and Access Management protocols and technologies (FIDO, U2F, Web-Auth, SSO, SAML, OAuth, Federation, etc.)

Education and Training:

· B.S. Computer Science or related field (MS or MBA or PhD preferred)
