Senior Tooling Engineer will research, develop and recommend world-class manufacturing processes in conjunction with CMs, ODMs, & internally. The Senior Tooling Engineer will gather technical/customer requirements, participate in DFM/DFA activities, analyze supplier metrics (cost, capacity, manpower), help maintain project timelines, and participate in Technical Sourcing and sustaining activities. As a Senior Tooling Engineer, you will primarily work with internal and external teams of manufacturing, operations, sourcing, engineering, and quality, serving as the manufacturing subject matter expert in effort to resolve critical manufacturing issues. Successful candidate will also generate cost reduction, process, continuous improvement ideas, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders

Position Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead as a manufacturing technical expert, support in Peloton Global Tooling activities
  • Responsible for developing new component/part suppliers and new sourcing partnerships that can be incorporated into new products, as well as existing products to improve cost, efficiency and quality
  • Lead manufacturing readiness activities and process validation builds to ensure flawless launch and mass production; solve problems efficiently to maintain project timing
  • Drive suppliers to properly meet the expectations of programs, including lead-times, schedules, manufacturing capacities and quality 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams through the NPI stage gate process (Concept-MP), to ensure robust DFM/DFA, providing leadership and expertise in product manufacturability
  • Collaborate on DFM/DFA initiatives including setting targets and standards
  • Drive component improvements using FEA/MFA or other advanced simulations tools
  • Collaborate with Peloton partners and teams to communicate, define manufacturing and assembly requirements
  • Interpret engineering drawings to clearly communicate design intent to suppliers (GD&T, process analysis, manufacturing tolerances)
  • Identify and communicate manufacturability and assembly concerns/risks as needed. Provide clear DFM/DFA design change recommendations
  • Provide strong technical direction by evaluating and guiding suppliers through operational design and development.
  • Mentor less experienced engineers
  • Conduct supplier technical audits. Maintain audit scorecards to drive continuous improvement.
  • Participate in supplier, CM, ODM selection & qualification
  • Lead suppliers to establish world-class manufacturing process
  • Develop process and equipment specifications as needed
  • Support process qualifications, capability studies (Cp/CpK), DOE’s and participate in PFMEA
  • Lead tooling readiness activities and process validation builds
  • Support product sustainment and improvement activities
  • Travel requirement: domestic and/or international travel at least 30% of the time, or as needed by the business with respect to company COVID guidelines

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Applied Sciences (Mechanical, Electrical, Physics, Material Science) preferred, MS a plus, or an equivalent amount of education and work experience
  • 7+ years’ experience in a hands-on, fast paced, engineering & manufacturing environment (NPI to high-volume MFG)
  • Subject Matter Expert in one or more of the following areas: Welding, Stamping, Casting, Injection Molding, CNC Machining, Forging, Electronics (Motor, Controls, PCB), Hydro-forming, various finishing techniques ( (Powder Coat, Paint, PVC Dipping, Anodizing, etc)
  • Fluent CAD user (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Knowledge and application of Global/International standards; ASTM, ISO, DIN, JIS, ANSI, etc.
  • Problem solving and corrective action skills: DOE, 8D, RedX, DAMIC, Kaizen events, etc.
  • Experience working with Global Suppliers, JDM/CMs /ODMs is a plus
  • Experience manufacturing highly cosmetic, consumer-facing products a plus
  • Knowledge of SAP, ERP/MRP/MES/QMS and other enterprise platforms a plus
  • Team player with excellent written, verbal, presentation, & conceptual skills
  • Proven experience and ability managing multiple, high-volume manufacturing projects, with competing priorities
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, Arena, Jira, Confluence, etc.
  • Experience managing global manufacturing projects (CapEx/OpEx)
