About the Role

As a visionary UX Design and Research leader you will develop a vision of the end-to-end experience for how merchants provide great post-purchase experiences to their shoppers and guide the execution on that vision. This is a leadership role in which you collaborate closely with the VP of Product on high-level strategy, and translating it into clear and focused guidance for product designers. This is a high-impact role with the opportunity to shape the future of modern ecommerce experiences.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead and grow a team of product designers and design researchers by setting clear objectives, establishing a strong design process, and building a strong team culture
  • Establish a design process that maintains a high level of creative execution and makes space for innovative and divergent exploration
  • Supervise work across multiple work streams, ensuring high quality experiences and on-time delivery
  • Actively promote and advance Returnly’s own design system
  • Champion design not as a tool to solve execution problems, but to identify new opportunities
  • Work towards developing a deep understanding of merchant needs through ongoing qualitative and quantitative insights
  • Develop product design strategies that are informed by user research, business objectives, and strong design sensibility
  • Use storytelling, persuasion and empathy to connect strategy and vision with ongoing initiatives
  • Partner with product and engineering leadership to develop strategic goals for the Returnly experience and work with your team to bring that vision to life

  • Desired Skills and Experience

  • You have experience leading, coaching, and growing design teams working on ecommerce products
  • You have an interest in entrepreneurship, high-growth environments, and are comfortable with risk
  • You have driven and defined the entire end-to-end UX lifecycle of successful ecommerce products
  • You have crafted beautifully designed experiences with great attention to detail
  • You have strong opinions, but hold them loosely
  • You use data to successfully inform your decision-making process and measure your outcomes
  • You bring a product mindset to design, balancing design craft and business needs
  • You have experience championing, defining, and scaling design systems
  • You have successfully run a multitude of focused, constructive and action-driven design critiques
  • You value open collaboration and know how to cultivate a culture of trust
  • You are equally comfortable both communicating big-picture strategy and delegating its execution, as well as working side-by-side with designers and ‘teaching by doing’
  • You have experience managing designers that work with cross-functional product and engineering teams in an agile or scrum environment
  • You are a maker at heart, enjoy diving into the details of a design, and love solving challenging problems
  • You have a deep understanding of UX best practices in mobile and web applications
  • You have strong portfolio of design work demonstrating end-to-end product design on products at varying points of the product life-cycle
