Here at Rigetti, the Security Engineering teams’ mission is to support and enable the development and deployment of our proprietary quantum computing hardware. As our 1st Security Engineering hire, you champion the intersection of technology, process, and people to be the conduit for Rigetti in sharing our cutting edge technology with the rest of the world. You will own the vital systems that power all aspects of our business and you’ll work cross functionally with world-class engineers and physicists to pioneer the most advanced quantum compute platform in the world.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Build, deploy, manage and improve critical security platforms, services and systems.
  • Advise account and access management teams on leading security practices for authentication and authorization, SSO, PKI, and secrets management.
  • Deploy and manage assurance tooling, logging solutions, and perform security audits.
  • Contribute to development and implementation of security abstraction layers to improve the security and resilience of the current environment and help our teams build safer code.
  • Own cross functional integration work with Rigetti’s QPU software team (e.g. prod authorization/authentication systems) to enable secure quantum computing. 
  • Have a security-focused mindset and be an outspoken advocate for customer trust and privacy protection resulting in pragmatic security solutions to manage business risk. 
  • Continuously assess and identify areas of the Rigetti infrastructure that can be strengthened.
  • Create and maintain documentation and follow up on tickets to drive mitigation and resolution.
  • Iterate and improve rather than build the initial perfect product.
  • Roll up your sleeves, dig into problems, and get to the bottom of finding root causes of security issues.
  • Mentor the entire Rigetti team on security best practices.
  • Research, evaluate, and recommend new and emerging security products and technologies.
  • Mitigate and minimize the impact of all threats to our networks, ranging from internal malware to botnets and DDoS’s.
  • Directly support the cybersecurity incident response processes as needed to combat threat actors. 
  • What You Bring to the Table:

  • 4-6+ years of combined experience across infrastructure security, information security, cloud security, network security, and/or application security. 
  • Technical deployment, debugging, and diagnostic skills.
  • Solid understanding of multiple Operating Systems as well as virtualization and networking fundamentals.
  • Experience creating and scaling infrastructure using  configuration management tools like Terraform, Chef, Puppet and Ansible.
  • Experience with penetration testing and/or deploying vulnerability management solutions preferred. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to work in collaborative efforts and projects across Infrastructure, Quantum, Applications, Networking IT and business teams. 
  • Ability to participate in incident response activities.
  • Experience working in Hybrid cloud technology environments. 
  • Experience securing 3rd party SaaS applications/platforms.
  • Experience with Security developing solutions that align with regulatory and contractual governance requirements preferred. 
  • Experience building security capabilities while coordinating between engineering, development, and business teams preferred. 
  • Experience coding for configuration or automation purposes preferred.
