SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.

AVIONICS PRODUCT ENGINEER

As an Avionics Product Engineer, you will have the unique opportunity to explore all areas of a product’s life cycle from development through production and launch by engaging in multiple disciplines with a focus on electronic design, reliability, and manufacturing. You will be expected to analyze and troubleshoot electronic assemblies, define new processes, design circuits/fixtures/tools, and identify opportunities for improvement in both products and processes. You will have the opportunity to own a wide variety of components that enable SpaceX vehicles to provide the safest and most reliable access to space. Our fundamental goal is to allow humanity to explore the stars; with it comes an extreme responsibility to ensure the safety of the crew and payload.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide extreme ownership of avionics products across all areas of the product life cycle
  • Troubleshoot avionics hardware spanning PCBA board testing and defect detection, full functional testing of an assembled unit, and resolving on-vehicle anomalies
  • Develop and modify electrical schematics and mechanical drawings for flight applications with an emphasis on reliability and manufacturability
  • Write and execute verification test plans, test procedures, and test reports against product requirements
  • Design and troubleshoot test setups and associated support equipment for executing validation and environmental testing
  • Assess new and existing designs for improvements that drive optimization for manufacturability and cost

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
  • 1+ years of experience with circuit board design, analysis, or unit level testing (significant academic projects, internships, and traditional professional experience all qualify)
  • 1+ years of experience with electronic components, wire harnesses, and electrical test equipment (e.g. multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies)

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Creative problem solver that can bring multiple disciplines together with the ability to assess risk and make design and development decisions without all available data
  • Experience with electrical schematic capture software (Altium, Orcad or similar)
  • Experience working in project teams such as Formula SAE or Hybrid Electric Vehicle
  • Professional experience with physical sensors, specifically pressure, acceleration, strain, and temperature
  • Experience with 3D CAD (Unigraphics, Solidworks or similar)
  • Experience with Matlab, LabVIEW, Python, SPICE, SQL, and/or National Instruments hardware
  • Experience with a range of interfaces including GPIB, USB, TCP/IP, CAN, SPI, and I2C
  • Experience supporting a product from conception to production
  • Understanding and experience in environmental testing such as vibration, shock, thermal, burn-in, and TVAC
  • Self-motivated with strong multi-tasking, organizational, communication and documentation skills
  • Strong sense of accountability and integrity with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, autonomously driven, and demanding atmosphere

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Extended hours and weekend work may be required to support critical project and mission milestones

ITAR REQUIREMENTS:
