FLUIDS ENGINEER, LAUNCH PAD

The Starship Launch Engineering team is looking for an individual who can design and implement fluid system projects for Starship launch sites, landing sites, test sites, production facilities and other locations as required.

 RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Help SpaceX develop rapid, reliable, and automated launch sites, landing sites, test sites, and production facilities
  • Design, build, and operate oxygen, methane, nitrogen, helium and other fluid systems for loading and servicing the Starship launch vehicle
  • Perform thermofluid analysis and other design tasks associated with gaseous and liquid (including cryogenic liquid) fluid systems
  • Manage the fabrication and installation of fluid systems and other construction projects occurring at the launch and test sites
  • Devise fluid system operational plans and implement automation in conjunction with other teams to perform launch operations
  • Review performance data and troubleshoot issues that arise in fluid systems and components
  • Coordinate with engineers from other disciplines (civil, structural, electrical, controls, etc) to establish a complete system design
  • Analyze and monitor process equipment performances (compressors, pumps, heat exchangers, etc.)
  • Manage interdisciplinary launch engineering projects from concept through design, build, and activation
  • Work closely with operational teams to ensure system design is well-understood and easy to operate long term

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
  • Experience with fluid dynamics, thermodynamics and/or process engineering

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Advanced degree in mechanical, aerospace or chemical engineering
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience working with cryogenic fluid systems in a professional setting or outside the classroom project team
  • Demonstrated expertise designing and operating fluid systems
  • CAD capability for 3D modeling (NX, SolidWorks)
  • Knowledge of engineering standards and best practices
  • Experience operating and troubleshooting control systems required for remote operations
  • Able to work well in an integrated collaborative team environment including daily interactions with technicians, engineers, and managers
  • Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure, fast paced environment
  • Self-motivated and directed with keen attention to detail
  • Passion for advancing the commercial space industry and human spaceflight
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team of talented and driven engineers

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Willing to travel to other launch sites in support of build and operational activities and launches; travel requirement is up to 15%
