LEAD MACHINIST

Work as part of a team of elite individuals building and improving the mechanical systems at our rocket launch and supporting facilities. Be there on the ground floor, getting your hands dirty and contributing directly to the success of future missions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Allocate work based on operator competency and machine capability, engage in machine maintenance and repair efforts, provide feedback and interface with customers and Engineering to maximize efficiency, all while maintaining a positive team oriented attitude 
  • Work with FANUC, conversational, and other CNC controls as well as manual machine tools as needed
  • Complete set-up of machining operations from blueprints, drawings, 3D models and/or verbal instructions
  • Program CNC machine tools using Mastercam
  • Programming and operation of a CNC plasma cutting table
  • Work with complex, tight tolerance parts and various materials

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience performing setup, machining, and programming
  • Experience in shop math, tooling technology, blueprint reading, GD&T, and precision inspection
  • Experience using precision measuring devices in a shop floor environment (e.g., micrometers, caliper, laser trackers and optical inspection equipment)

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience managing efficient workflow through the shop, and a successful team of talented machinists and operators while maintaining the ability to produce parts
  • Indentured Journeyman’s card and/or Associate’s Degree in a related field of study (e.g. Tool & Die Making, Machining, or CNC machining)
  • GD&T proficiency
  • Programming experience relative to understanding program coding and interpreting programs
  • Proven capabilities to provide continuous improvement suggestions, to motivate others

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Position will involve repetitive movement, occasional bending and twisting and material handling activities
  • Must be available to work all required shift hours and be available to work overtime, and weekends as needed

  • To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
