LEAD WELDER (GSE)

Work as part of a world class team of elite individuals building and improving the mechanical systems at our rocket launch facilities. Be there on the ground floor, getting your hands dirty and contributing directly to the success of future launches.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lay out, fit, and fabricate metal components to assemble structures, launch component supports and pressure vessels, using knowledge of welding techniques
  • Participate in training outside contractors and construction of additional equipment
  • Orient new team members; assist in assigning and reassigning tasks; assist in scheduling daily work assignments; and assist others on work procedures
  • Assist supervisor in coaching, mentoring, and training team members
  • Communicate to the team the assignment, project, problem to be solved, deadlines, and issues for review
  • Lead problem solving and collaboration of SpaceX tasks and assignments
  • Ensure that the proper weld procedure is followed by all welding staff members, provide information on the type of material and rod size and accurately assess material needs for each welding project

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years of structural welding experience
  • Previous experience welding at a launch or production site

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years of experience welding on steel and aluminum, and stainless-steel projects
  • 5+ years of experience of layout and fitting experience
  • 10+ years of structural welding experience welding large scale structures, jigs, and fixtures
  • Strong understanding of AC and DC processes
  • Proficient in blueprint reading and lay out
  • Proficient in Flux core, GTAW, GMAW
  • Proficient in Plasma Cutting as well as Oxyacetylene cutting
  • Knowledge of TIG welding processes
  • Experience working with overhead cranes & forklifts

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Able to pass AWS D1.1 & AWS D1.2 tests
  • Must pass visual before being X-rayed
  • Lifting up to 30lbs, standing, climbing, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing stooping, stretching and carrying are generally required to perform the functions of this position
  • Must be available to work all required shift hours and be available to work overtime, and weekends, as needed
