NDE LEVEL III SPECIALIST - EDDY CURRENT (ET) (NDE ENGINEERING)

The NDE Level III Specialist position at SpaceX has a primary method focus and sits within the NDE engineering organization reporting to a principal NDE level III. This is a highly active position requiring constant and effective cross boundary collaborations among various stakeholders, including internal design/manufacturing/reliability engineering, supply chain engineering, inspection services and NDE equipment vendors.

The charter of this position is to develop and maintain advanced method specific inspection processes, write inspection procedures and techniques, and deploy them to production, as well as, author necessary instructional materials, provide Inspector training, and maintain the processes once deployed in production.

This position requires strong technical knowledge in the primary method and an understanding of industry best practices, tools, equipment, codes, and procedures, and is required to establish project schedules, provide status updates, meet deliverable requirements, and maintain project documentation. When needed, the level III specialist can provide certification training, and proctor then grade written and practical examinations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Evaluate new inspection technologies and develop/design/deploy new inspection solutions
  • Collaborate with engineering to solve emergent inspection problems and implement efficiency improvements
  • Interpret engineering drawings and NDE requirements,
  • Review and interpret inspection data with engineers
  • Implement inspection process qualification projects
  • Perform NDE performance audits for quality, accuracy, consistency, and reliability
  • Communicate process deficiencies or other issues to principal level III
  • Mentor, train, and support inspectors
  • Proctor and grade certification examinations
  • Support offsite vendor inspections and/or audits
  • Support data reviews for potential escapes and containments

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3+ years of eddy current (ET) level III experience (NAS-410) ASNT certified, in a technique/process/training development role

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 3+ years of experience as an ASNT NDE level III in multiple methods
  • 2+ years of experience in radiographic inspection (RT) especially with digital radiography (DR)
  • Engineering-related degree/certificate: e.g. materials science, aerospace, electronic, mechanical
  • 3+ years manufacturing experience applying Lean principles, Kaizen, continuous improvement, 5S
  • 3+ years of aerospace NDE and/or experience with implementation of advanced NDE solutions in other industrial sectors
  • 2+ years of experience collaborating with materials, design, and reliability engineering teams
  • Ability to interpret CAD drawings with experience in packages such as Siemens NX, Catia, and Pro-E
  • Knowledge of key models/brands of inspection equipment within your method(s)
  • Knowledge & understanding of NASA, ASME, ASTM, ISO, SAE, & AWS inspection and certification standards
  • Experience in technical presentations with proven track record in the training and development of others

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs. unassisted, bend, stretch, stand for extended periods of time, climb stairs, reach, twist, sit, and walk
  • Willingness to work extended hours and weekends when needed to meet critical deadlines
  • Willingness to travel as needed
