ON-ORBIT RELIABILITY ENGINEER

The Starlink program is the largest satellite internet constellation with more than a thousand satellites deployed and growing every month. This role will directly support the health of the electronics on the satellites, responding to alerts, leading anomaly investigations, and performing lab experiments to replicate observations. You will play a key role in keeping our customers served with reliable vehicles as well as managing the orbit data to help drive design decisions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • On-call support for alerts from operational satellites on orbit
  • Drive improvements to alert and fault recovery automation to reduce manual intervention for issues on orbit
  • Drive anomaly resolution and failure investigations in collaboration with software, electrical, and constellation operations engineers
  • Perform electrical bench testing and investigations to replicate and inform mitigation of anomalies
  • Develop engineering models of failures and anomalies to understand replacement rate, spare planning, and expected hardware uptime
  • Monitor deployed hardware health by developing analysis tools and dashboards
  • Support off-site radiation effects testing as needed to aid anomaly resolution and software improvements

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or other engineering field
  • Experience with Python or other data analysis tools

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Advanced degree in electrical engineering or related field
  • Experience with Pandas, Plotly, or similar data analysis tools and data visualization techniques
  • Experience with Git and continuous integration development
  • Experience with designing avionics hardware for remote deployment
  • Experience driving anomaly resolution and improvement in inaccessible hardware
  • Experience with test equipment and measurement techniques to verify and validate software improvements
  • Understanding of electrical schematics and electronics manufacturing to analyze and improve test coverage
  • Experience developing firmware or embedded software

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Available to work extended hours and weekends as needed
