PRODUCT ENGINEER (STARLINK)

As a Starlink Product Engineer, you will have the opportunity to lead the overall development engineering effort and drive improvements to the design and manufacturing of our consumer and enterprise Starlink products. You will be primarily responsible for bring up and operation of one or more Starlink consumer product lines (Starlink phased arrays, Wi-Fi routers, mounts/accessories, hardware refurbishment, etc.), acting as a deputy program manager to ensure reliable performance, cost-effective design and production, and adherence to all system requirements. You will be part of the larger Starlink Engineering organization and interact with all engineering disciplines to resolve new engineering, reliability, and production issues as they arise. You will be expected to coordinate projects to improve the performance and reduce the cost of Starlink products. You will act as a product lead and will be responsible for integration of all technical aspects of the design, production, and customer operation of your hardware - including technical communication to internal and external customers regarding the status of design and production.

Successful candidates in this role have strong engineering fundamentals, possess effective communication skills, and work well in a dynamic environment with changing needs as we strive to deliver high-impact technology on a massive scale.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop the overall program schedule, product definition, technical and performance trades, and resource definition to achieve program goals
  • Manage bring-up of new products and production lines, and coordinate cut-in of design and production changes required to improve performance and reduce cost
  • Coordinate development hardware builds for integrated test campaigns and other internal development needs
  • Lead integrated teams to solve cross-functional design and field performance issues with Starlink products
  • Report overall program status and critical path items to management, executives, and the department for alignment
  • Communicate technical intent to various design teams and effectively translate this content to production and business teams as well as the greater public

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering, math, or physics discipline
  • 1+ years of experience managing engineering projects or technical trades (professional, internship, and extracurricular experience is applicable)

PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years experience managing projects or technical trades
  • Experience with interdisciplinary project management across many departments; interdisciplinary engineering fundamentals and multidisciplinary project execution is the key to success in this role
  • Experience developing and presenting executive summaries of status to drive decision making
  • Experience SQL, PowerBI, VBA, and/or Python experience
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Experience in fast-paced iterative design and manufacturing environments
  • Experience solving complex problems with little to no supervision on schedule as an individual or as a member of an integrated team

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be willing to work flexible and/or extended hours to meet the needs of the role
  • Able to travel for short business trips as needed (up to 15%)
