SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.

SOFTWARE ENGINEER, TEST (STARLINK)

Starlink believes in providing fast, reliable internet to serve populations with little or no connectivity. We design, build, and launch the world's largest constellation of satellites, enabling us to operate a global internet network unbounded by traditional ground infrastructure limitations. Want to help build the next era of Internet?

We are looking for creative and driven software engineers to design the next generation factory test and automation software to build millions of devices that we ship directly to customers (Starlink dishes, Wi-Fi routers, etc.). Aerospace experience is not required to be successful here – engineers on this team are curious, collaborative, love to learn new things, and work effectively in a dynamic environment to deliver high-impact technology on a massive scale.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Write test sequences and hardware drivers for production lines that manufacture Starlink consumer products
  • Develop software tools/libraries to monitor processes and machines (robots, conveyors, etc) in our factory
  • Design data analysis tools, dashboards, and reports to track key metrics and failures
  • Create scalable applications, services, and infrastructure to enable a smart factory
  • Work directly with cross-disciplinary engineers (mechanical, electrical, software, manufacturing, automation)

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, physics, or science discipline OR 2+ years of professional experience in software development in lieu of a degree
  • Development experience in Python, C++, or other object-oriented languages (internship and extracurricular experience is applicable)
  • Experience with Linux and Git

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, communicate effectively, and work both independently and within a team
  • Experience with any of the following parts of our tech stack is a bonus:
    • Automation or hardware testing in a high-volume manufacturing environment, including industrial robotics and PLCs
    • Data management and visualization tools (PostgreSQL, Kafka, Redis, Grafana, InfluxDB)
    • Distributed architecture and cloud infrastructure tools (Kubernetes, Docker, AWS/Azure/GCP)
    • APIs and network communication protocols (gRPC, REST, HTTP, MQTT)
    • CI/CD and configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Jenkins, Chef, Bamboo)
    • Analog and digital hardware drivers (USB, VISA, CAN, SPI, I2C, RS232, TCP/IP)

ITAR REQUIREMENTS:

  • To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
