SOURCING SPECIALIST (LAUNCH VEHICLES)

SpaceX is on a fast track to become the market leader in various product categories like US based human spaceflight, rapid vehicle reusability, internet services through the Starlink constellation and others exciting projects. The SpaceX Supply Chain Department is a critical player in our operations. To capitalize on SpaceX’s technological and market changing successes, our team will be part of managing an agile yet robust supply chain that will enable a competitive advantage for the company. SpaceX supply chain will play a key role in enabling SpaceX to meet these ambitious growth targets and greatly contribute in making us a multi-planetary species.

This is a high-profile, cross functional position that plays an integral role in enabling production flow and supporting launch manifest and key developmental goals. Working in close coordination with engineering and manufacturing departments, sourcing specialists execute effective creative and smart supply chain strategies to achieve production goals. The functions within the sourcing management include vendor coordination and procurement, delivery management, and dock-to-stock coordination. With integration taking place in-house, sourcing specialists are able to see their assemblies come to life every day!

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Forecast demand, evaluate capacity, and manage supply signals to adjust incoming material
  • Track high risk components and supplier delivery performance
  • Establish and manage mechanical and electrical bills of materials in both prototype and production phases
  • Recover material shortages of purchased and fabricated parts by working cross-functionally and using their knowledge base to come up with creative solutions
  • Analyze and interpret data to distinguish the signal from the noise
  • Communicate clearly and rapidly to influence decisions of vendors and senior leadership

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or 4+ years of experience working in a supply chain, production, or engineering function

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 2+ years of professional experience in technical sourcing, procurement, or planning
  • Technical knowledge in a commodity (e.g. composites raw material, composite components, electronic/electro-mechanical components, machining, avionics, soft goods etc.)
  • Experience with MRP or enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, and with managing bill of materials, work orders, and purchase orders.
  • American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS) certification, Six Sigma certification, or similar certifications
  • Experience with forecasting, demand planning, and lead time analysis
  • Experience with raw materials and components movement among multiple nodes, inventory tracking/management
  • Experience reading datasheets, drawings and blueprints
  • Strong skills in data analysis using Excel, SQL and PowerBI
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, cross functional environment, independently and in a team
  • Demonstrated efficiency in time management, interpersonal communication, and organization
  • Proven track record of leadership and team building skills
  • Ability to learn quickly and prioritize appropriately to meet customer and company needs
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated and able to respond quickly to a fast-moving and ever-changing environment
  • Conducts all activities with the highest of integrity

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work long hours, some nights and/or weekends when needed
  • Ability to travel - up to 50% work week travel
