SR. COST ACCOUNTANT

We’re looking for a Sr. Cost Accountant to join our cost accounting team. This position will be involved with many aspects of accounting and finance and will be a key contributor in confirming that our books are accurate, producing timely financial reporting, and ensuring strong cost performance tracking.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create and implement flexible costing models and accounting classifications across a variety of products (Falcon, Dragon, Starship, Starlink), including both low volume actual costs and high-volume average cost metrics
  • Manage inventory valuations for multiple production locations, including reconciliation of WIP work orders and on-hand inventory, as well as set up capabilities for new sites/programs
  • Prepare key performance indicators (KPIs) to track operational and production execution 
  • Develop new business processes with supply chain to ensure accurate tracking of materials
  • Forecast future unit costs with cross-functional teams and track progress
  • Review and update standard costs and bill of materials with labor, burden, and outside service costs
  • Analyze and record R&D inventory expenses to the correct projects and departments
  • Lead cost reduction/spend savings efforts
  • Manage year-end audit request on inventory, cost of goods sold, and R&D spending
  • Support cost estimates for percent completion revenue accounting and perform project accounting analysis
  • Present monthly inventory close metrics to finance leadership
  • Perform production and supply chain FP&A activities as needed
  • Establish, document, and deploy control procedures over accounting and financial activities

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, business, mathematics, engineering or other technical discipline
  • 4+ years of experience in general accounting, cost accounting, financial operations, or financial analysis

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience with SQL
  • Advanced Excel modeling and/or reporting skills
  • Proficiency with Python
  • Experience developing Power BI dashboards
  • Experience with SOX compliance a plus
