SR. MANAGER, MATERIALS MANAGEMENT

This role is a key leadership position within the Materials Management organization, with responsibility for operations at our Hawthorne, CA facility across the Distribution Center, Fulfillment Center and Delivery Systems organizations. Our goal is to become a leader in materials management with a focus on excellent customer service, super-fast response times, and high inventory accuracy. This role will be responsible for leading both the day-to-day materials management operations, while also driving the necessary strategic projects and process improvements to take the organization to the next level and respond to the evolving needs of the business.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operational excellence: perform to both the materials management goals and objectives, but also to those of the internal customers across the Hawthorne campus
  • Leadership: manage a large hourly workforce across multiple buildings and supporting 7 days-a-week operations; assess employee performance, provide positive/constructive feedback, facilitate conflict resolution, and address repeat issues with corrective actions, performance improvement plans or through disciplinary means
  • Role model: lead by example, taking feedback from all levels of the organization, and motivating your organization to achieve the highest level of results
  • Safety: monitor and improve operations, ensuring a safe work environment – with the goal of zero OSHA recordables annually. Conduct regular safety walks, address safety issues, and promote safety policies
  • Quality: ensure business practices are being followed to not only guarantee the processing of product in a quality manner, but also meet those needs outlined in AS9100 and customer flow-down requirements.  Be the focal point for internal and external audits and other events pertaining to the materials management organization
  • Inventory management: manage the incoming acceptance, storing and issuing of a wide variety of part numbers into inventory, while also managing the min/max replenishment system that ensures product is strategically stored across the Hawthorne campus to minimize delivery times
  • Customer Service: manage operations that provide industry leading levels of customer service in all operations, recognizing the needs of the business and adapting to support our mission
  • Cost: lead cost saving opportunities, identifying internal/external cost reductions and optimization opportunities
  • Cycle counting: ensure cycle counting procedures are routinely followed to meet both our internal and external audit requirements
  • Fleet management: ensure robust controls are in place for the management of a fleet of vehicles, ensuring the necessary preventative maintenance, upkeep and strategic enhancements are made
  • Dock-to-stock: own and drive the entire process from receipt of material to storage in inventory to delivering to final customer (ex. lineside, production, engineering, etc.)
  • Material handling/driving: ensure efficient and routine internal transportation across the campus: both within buildings/complexes and between buildings/complexes
  • Process improvement: drive projects and changes that contribute to materials management’s ongoing improvement. Foster an environment where change is embraced and ideas are respected, supported, vetted and ultimately implemented (if deemed appropriate). This includes maintaining awareness of technological step-changes across the industry and assessing their application for SpaceX’s operations
  • Shelf life: ensure procedures are routinely being followed for shelf-life storage and maintain proper rotation of stock, “first-in/first-out” (FIFO) or other requirements as indicated by specifications or customer flow-downs
  • Environmental controls: ensure the appropriate environmental controls are effective and maintained to keep product safe and maintain the necessary quality
  • Mentorship: actively monitor and grow the workforce, ensuring team members are challenged and performing at the expected standards. Mentor and develop a leadership team of managers, supervisors and leads. Conduct weekly one-on-ones with direct reports, while routinely conduct one-over-ones and employee round-tables with the rest of the workforce in this organization
  • Adaptability: as SpaceX continues to innovate and pave the way for future development, this leader needs to be able to adapt their team to the ever-changing needs of the organization
  • Perform administrative duties, including but not limited to, approving timecards, scheduling workforce to support operations, establishing employee goals and completing regular performance reviews and calibrations

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years of experience in a supervisory/managerial position
  • 5+ years of experience within materials management, supply chain, or production/manufacturing

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, business, science, engineering, or other technical discipline
  • APICS certification in supply chain - CPIM or CSCP
  • Logistics certification - CTL
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced/cross-functional environment while maintaining on-time project completion, deal with a wide variety of challenges, and work with a diverse array of contacts
  • Lean/6-sigma experience (green/black belt certifications)
  • Excellent communication and team-building skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced/cross-functional environment
  • Capable of adapting to abrupt changes in strategy
  • Experience within an aerospace, aviation, or automotive manufacturing environment
  • Previous experience with capital planning and capital management
  • Demonstrate innovative and futuristic thinking to drive continuous improvement
  • Computer Skills - Microsoft applications (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Project), SQL, and PowerBI

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Willing to work extended hours and weekends as needed
