VEHICLE COST ANALYST

The Vehicle Cost Analyst is a key member of the finance organization and will be involved in many aspects of finance and accounting. You will be a key contributor in automating processes, providing visibility into analytics, collaborating across various groups, managing projects, and tracking the cost of our Falcon, Dragon, and Starship vehicles. This role is responsible for driving down cost per kilogram to orbit.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Integrate with all levels of the business to understand hardware design and manufacturing processes and rapidly answer tactical business questions through analytical frameworks
  • Cultivate a deep understanding of vehicle architecture, including design and manufacturing processes as well as vehicle operations during test and flight
  • Implement costing models and processes across a variety of products (which could include Falcon, Dragon, and Starship), providing our business partners with meaningful insights into their hardware
  • Design PowerBI dashboards and create reports for product costs, inventory data, and operational execution for design engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain
  • Work with engineering, supply chain, and manufacturing to create and maintain product introduction and improvement roadmaps
  • Forecast future unit costs with cross-functional teams and track progress
  • Build data analysis tools and queries to support vehicle cost and labor analysis throughout all phases of the hardware lifecycle, including design, initial build, flight, and refurbishment
  • Help create and maintain data infrastructure upon which other teammates and business partners can build ad-hoc or department specific reporting
  • Provide ad-hoc support in adding visualizations or filters on top of existing dashboards
  • Review and update standard costs and bill of materials with labor, burden and outside service costs
  • Partner with application software teams on integration of manufacturing execution system data into cost analysis tools

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, finance, statistics, operations management, mathematics, or other technical discipline
  • 2+ years of experience in finance, business operations, or engineering

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience with SQL
  • Advanced Excel modeling capabilities
  • Understanding and knowledge of manufacturing processes and supply chain functions
  • Experience supporting engineering or manufacturing process improvements
  • Experience extracting and analyzing information out of massive, complex and, in some cases, disparate datasets
  • Proven experience in performance tuning of Power BI dashboards and reports
  • Microsoft SQL Server development experience, or equivalent training or certification
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to regularly interface with executive management
  • Ability to uncover and develop data-oriented stories that resonate with business partners/executive audiences
  • Experience with building data infrastructure (e.g., designing architecture, building data pipelines, implementing scalable monitoring) and implementing reporting solutions
  • Adept at data prep, data modeling, and data visualization
