VEHICLE TESTBED TECHNICIAN (SATELLITES) 

Want to work with the world’s most advanced and cutting-edge satellites? As part of the Avionics Integration and Test team for the satellite program, you will help design, build, and maintain satellite test vehicles. You will work with all aspects of these vehicles, including electromechanical assemblies, harnessing, computer systems, computer networking and radio-frequency equipment.

These mission-critical test vehicles allow us to simulate space missions and validate our designs. We’re looking for people who want to dive in and get their hands dirty and those who are not afraid to work on a fast paced, technically challenging program. An active Top Secret security clearance, or ability to obtain one, is desired but not required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Troubleshoot and maintain mission-critical satellite hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) testbeds
  • Fabricate and assemble high quality, high reliability wire harnessing and electromechanical assemblies 
  • Communicate with avionics and software engineers to identify problems, and work independently to diagnose system failures and make appropriate repairs
  • Read, interpret, and work from drawings and contribute to documentation
  • Configure computing infrastructure (servers, network switches, etc.) which may include both Windows- and Linux-based systems
  • Maintain a well-organized facility that can support both planned and unplanned test objectives

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • 1+ years of professional experience in a hands-on role working with wire harnesses and/or assembling/troubleshooting electrical systems within the commercial, automotive, or aerospace industry
  • 1+ years of professional experience working hands-on with electronics equipment (e.g. programmable power supplies, multi-meters, oscilloscopes)
  • U.S. Citizen

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • Associate degree in electrical engineering, electronics or related technical field
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and teamwork skills
  • Experience in a fast-paced work environment working with mission-critical hardware. Ability to manage changing work assignments.
  • Hands-on experience fabricating harnesses, soldering, building electro-mechanical assemblies, or prototype development
  • Familiarity with reading and interpreting electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and work instructions
  • IPC and/or JSTD certification including IPC610, IPC 7711/7722, or JSTD-001
  • Excellent concentration and attention to detail with outstanding work efficiency and accuracy

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Extended hours and weekend work may be required to support critical project and mission milestones
  • Able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs
  • Repetitive assembly operations, grasping, standing, lifting, bending, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, and carrying are generally required to perform the functions of this position 
  • An active clearance may provide the opportunity for you to work on sensitive SpaceX missions; if so, you will be subject to pre-employment drug and random drug and alcohol testing
