About the Role

The Athletic is looking for a creative, analytical individual to join our team as an Audience Development Associate for our audio team. In this role, you will be responsible for growing the audience for our podcasts in the US. This will include curation & distribution of original content and promotions across various The Athletic US social channels to drive growth, listener engagement and awareness. The Audience Development Associate will have a strong familiarity with our content, engage a passionate audience of sports fans and develop new ways to grow our listenership. This role may be based in Los Angeles or New York office or remote.

Responsibilities

  • Work with our social media team to grow our listenership through our podcasts’ presence on YouTube, Twitter, and Instagram
  • Develop a YouTube strategy for The Athletic based on the podcasts and content that we’re creating
  • Execute social programming strategy, including curation & distribution of podcasts and video to relevant audiences to drive growth and engagement
  • Develop copy and visual assets to amplify top podcasts across our network
  • Drive subscriber growth through coordination with our podcast production team on promotional campaigns 
  • Work with our podcast producers and hosts to build a sense of community around each of our podcasts to increase listener engagement and drive growth from word of mouth
  • Derive engagement insights and learnings through ongoing testing and tracking of growth tactics
  • Coordinate with producers on content programming, marketing communication and best practices
  • Requirements

  • 1-3 years experience in social media, field/event marketing, digital marketing, or similar (sports media preferred)
  • Advanced knowledge of social media best practices & resources
  • Creativity to engage a passionate audience of US sports fans
  • Analytical mindset with an understanding of key social growth & engagement metrics
  • Demonstrated platform fluency around YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, WhatsApp in business applications
  • Experience managing multiple social channels (multiple YouTube channels desired)
  • Strong writing skills with a keen eye for grammar, punctuation
  • Understanding of subscription revenue model in the digital media space
  • Passionate sports fan with familiarity of topics on The Athletic that drive reader interest
  • Must be comfortable communicating across multiple departments
  • Experience developing brand voice and tone across social channels is a plus
