The Who, What, Why and Where

Twilio’s Information Security team is responsible for securing Twilio’s complex global network.  Our Cloud Security Engineers support this mission by working across the organization to identify and implement betterments, understanding complex architectures and systems, drive down the number of vulnerabilities, reduce the blast radius of any vulnerabilities, and assist in incident response efforts when needed.  You will be building solutions to tough security problems in real-time networks, assisting junior team members, and working with experts in cellular networks. You are passionate about building secure world-class infrastructure and tooling in terms of reliability, scalability, and accessibility. 

Who?

Twilio is looking for an exceptional security engineer who lives the Twilio Magic and has the following requirements:

  • 3+ years experience in at least one of the 3 major cloud solutions (AWS, Azure or GCP)
  • 2+ years experience working with 
    • Modern infrastructure management (Terraform/CloudFormation, Ansible, Chef, CI/CD, GitOps)
    • Security log handling and management (Cloudtrail, SumoLogic, Splunk)
    • Cloud native infrastructure, such as: 
      • Identity & Access Management (IAM), VPCs, ELB/ALB/NLB, KMS, EC2, S3, Cloudtrail, Lambda
  • Knowledge​ ​of​ ​network​-,​ ​system-​ , ​and​ ​application​-​layer​ ​attacks​ ​and​ ​mitigation methods
  • Strong​ ​business​ ​acumen​ ​with​ ​the​ ​ability​ ​to​ ​build​ ​business​ ​cases​ ​for​ ​technology​ ​initiatives and​ ​to​ ​effectively​ ​communicate​ ​the​ ​value​ ​proposition​ ​to​ ​non-technical​ ​stakeholders
  • Linux command line skills, as well as programming/scripting knowledge
    • Examples: Python, Ruby, Go, Shell scripting
  • Demonstrated success as a cross-functional partner in the security space
  • Bachelor’s degree in information security, information technology, computer science, computer engineering, or equivalent experience.

Ideally you have:

  • Data Center to Cloud migration experience
  • Experience in penetration testing and red/blue team activities
  • Experience securing multi-cloud environments
  • Kubernetes / EKS
  • Service Mesh / Envoy
  • Message busses (Kinesis / Kafka)
  • Lambda / Step Functions
  • Process automation

As a Cloud Security Engineer, you will collaborate with other InfoSec and Engineering teams to improve visibility of cloud resources and secure configuration management of our cloud infrastructure. You will build reliable tools to prevent, mitigate or remediate cloud misconfigurations in cloud infrastructure. You will live the Twilio Magic values:

    • Work alongside engineering teams as their subject matter expert
    • Build​ ​security​ ​utilities​ ​and​ ​tools​ ​for​ ​internal​ ​use​ ​that​ ​enable​ ​you​ ​and​ ​your​ ​fellow​ engineers​ ​to​ ​operate​ ​at​ ​high​ ​speed​ ​and​ ​wide​ ​scale

In accordance with applicable law, the following represents Twilio's reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation for this role if hired in Colorado.

Salary:

Denver/Boulder Metro:

Tier 4 base salary range: $90,752-124,784

Rest of Colorado:

Tier 5 base salary range: $79408-$109,186

Additionally, this role is eligible to participate in Twilio's equity plan.
