Twilio is growing rapidly and seeking a Director to be a leader in Twilio’s critical R&D Finance team. This high-visibility role gives you a platform to drive investment intensity and growth for the Company’s tech stack. As the Director of RD, Platform you will need to lead a team, build deep business partnerships with the senior most Engineering Leaders, clearly communicate the current state of the business and develop engineering strategy in partnership with the Chief Engineer and Product Officer.

In this role, you will lead a team of talented finance professionals and manage all R&D Finance initiatives in partnership with Corporate Finance, Engineering, Product, Strategic Sourcing, IT, etc. Specifically, you will partner with Engineering Leaders to solve for optimal solutions regarding infrastructure investment and management. Specifically, you will lead a team to: (1) implement an engineering framework that can be used to evaluate technical infrastructure investment and returns, (2) establish key performance metrics, (3) define and execute against efficiency targets and (4) produce insightful analytics to inform management decisions around key strategies such as cloud strategies and vendor optimization. You will have a significant impact on how Twilio analyzes Platform performance and makes investment decisions in our tech stack. 

Who?

Twilio is looking for an experienced leader who has:

  • 8+ years of relevant analytical and management experience in Tech / SaaS Product Finance, FP&A or technology investing (VC/PE/fund).
  • Extensive experience working with SaaS / PaaS infrastructure; understanding of cloud-based architecture solutions
  • Fluent understanding of Product P&L dynamics, unit economics, and common SaaS / PaaS metrics along with budget management
  • Exceptional analytical skills and clear thinking; the ability to synthesize financial insights into relevant actionable items by building scalable processes 
  • Experience navigating operational complexity across multiple product lines/engineering teams. Strong ability to achieve outcomes and reach deadlines even when there are numerous other “priorities”.
  • Strong communication skills; ability to summarize complex data and experience with presenting to C-level and Senior Leadership in a manner that induces decision-making
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally and in a matrix environment
  • Strong track record of developing and leading a team

What?

Director of R&D, Platform you will:

  • EMPOWER OTHERS: Lead a team of talented Senior Financial Analysts and or Managers
  • DRAW THE OWL: Be responsible for defining and implementing an engineering framework used to evaluate technical infrastructure investment level and measure investment returns (ROI)
  • BE BOLD: Partner with Engineering Leaders to drive cost competitiveness across the company tech stack by establishing and executing against efficiency targets and metrics
  • BE AN OWNER: Own budget setting and management for the entire Twilio Platform Team, including standard financial reporting and analytics 
  • NO SHENANIGANS: Report and communicate variances from planned/forecasted results to the Leadership Team
  • WRITE IT DOWN: Lead your team to create relevant reporting, including charts and graphs, for visual understanding of data for the Leadership Team
  • BE AN OWNER: Own and drive leadership discussions with insightful analytics to inform key strategic decisions
  • EMPOWER OTHERS: Partner cross-functionally to deliver on company priorities such as technical strategies (e.g. cloud strategies, vendor optimization, cost improvement, other organizational efficiencies, etc.)
