The Who, What, Why and Where

Twilio is looking for a (Senior) Software Engineer with a passion for building user-friendly and resilient  systems and tools that allow our internal customers (all Twilio engineers) to monitor the systems and services they build and maintain at Twilio. The Platform Engineering team builds products that our Twilio engineers use to reliably scale, deploy, and build our customer-facing products.

Who?

Twilio is looking for an engineer who lives the Twilio Magic and has a software development background. This includes:

  • You are able to think at scale, and meet high availability goals, ensure service resiliency, and address latency and quality challenges in a large distributed environment.
  • Fluency in one programming language - Java, Python or Go.
  • Experience working in a SaaS (Software as a Service) environment.
  • You understand how to build and maintain reliable services.
  • You bring experience with distributed systems and hybrid production systems.

We welcome and incorporate people with different levels of seniority and experience.

What?

As a (Senior) Software Engineer, you will be working alongside a small but collaborative team that builds APIs, web services, and tools that maximize the throughput of Twilio’s product teams. You will create and maintain tools that gather and analyze data from every service in Twilio and will provide interfaces so that all engineers in Twilio can customize how your tools are used. You will live the Twilio Magic values:

  • DRAW THE OWL: You need to design and implement solutions for the Twilio platform that has high demand for resilience and scalability.
  • EMPOWER OTHERS: You are challenged to find best observability tools and services for the growing Twilio engineering community.
  • WRITE IT DOWN: You need to document the architecture diagrams and guidelines for other engineering teams.
  • BE AN OWNER: You are co owner for the whole software development lifecycle.
  • WEAR THE CUSTOMER’S SHOES: Spend the time to deeply understand customers, and solve problems from their perspective. Earn trust through every interaction.

Why?

The Platform Observability team gathers data from all the services at Twilio to help engineers gain insight and make better decisions while engineering and scaling up Twillio’s services. The team is responsible for build service observability - logging, metrics, distributed tracing and monitoring solutions.
