We’re seeking highly analytical, passionate, entrepreneurial individuals who thrive in diverse cross-functional environments to join the Perigold Category Management team. Broadly, in this role, you will be expected to define overarching goals and strategy within your categories, problem-solve, articulate and execute against business plans, own supplier relationships, onboard new suppliers, and manage key business metrics. Category Directors must be able to expertly negotiate internally and externally, while also being effective project and team managers. We are scaling rapidly and are focused on expanding our strategic capabilities to support our growing business.

This role is specifically focused on managing our Contemporary Furniture, Decor, Lighting and Accessories business. In addition to the responsibilities listed above, the leader of this business will need to define our optimal customer experience for contemporary home goods (e.g. how to we ensure we resonate with the customer in market for these goods), establish themselves as a leader within industry groups focused on protecting original design and lead our work internally to ensure we have appropriate processes in place to uphold our commitments to original design.

Who We Are

Joining the Perigold Category Management team offers a unique opportunity to drive strategy for Wayfair’s newest brand, targeting the luxury home market. We are focused on providing an unparalleled assortment of luxury home goods through an elevated online shopping experience for our customers. We do this by connecting the best brands with our luxury customer while working on product curation, brand marketing and storytelling, building a best-in-class site experience, and providing best-in-class service and delivery. We serve as ambassadors for the categories we manage by identifying and solving unique customer and supplier challenges. Internally we partner with various teams including Profit Management, Merchandising, Partner Operations, Marketing, Brand and Curated Merchandising and Promotions to bring the Perigold vision to life.

How is this opportunity unique?

  • The Perigold CM team interacts with our suppliers every day. We like candidates with consultative mindsets who want to work with external partners. Collaborative partnerships are a hallmark of a relationship with Perigold.
  • Perigold is a data-driven environment. Candidates with experience using data to drive decision-making are great matches.
  • We move fast and take risks. If you have experience at a start-up or in another fast-paced, risk-taking environment, you’d enjoy working at Perigold. Be prepared to constantly evolve.
  • Strong communication is key. Category Directors have a 360° view into their suppliers and their category. You’ll need to be able to gain buy-in from senior leaders and cross-functional teams to accomplish your goals.
  • We like to have fun. Our team of ~30 takes time each month to celebrate our wins and toast our accomplishments. We foster an environment that values balance, and we encourage personal development by offering a broad spectrum of opportunities for continuous development and mentorship.

What You'll Do

  • Fully build out assortment: Own the development of a comprehensive strategy to multiply our assortment. While doing so, have a strong focus on maintaining site performance and navigability in addition to developing partnerships with suppliers and brands not yet on site
  • Manage supplier stakeholders: Help drive deeper partnerships with key suppliers to unlock better costs and find creative savings. A critical part of the role is building long-term relationships with, negotiating with, and influencing new and existing suppliers
  • Become an industry leader: You will need to ingrain yourself in industry organizations to continue to establish our credibility as a valuable retailer and also to help promote Perigold’s commitment to upholding original design
  • Articulate the vision for our optimal customer experience: Deeply understand how the customer shops this category and how we need to evolve our site experience to support that. You will need to work closely with various cross-functional teams to bring that vision to life
  • Build a high performing, dynamic team: Build a high performing team that is capable of driving industry leading speed and reliability in the context of rapid growth. Manage and develop a team that works closely with executive leaders to deliver a comprehensive understanding of our business drivers as we continue to scale
  • Assess performance and adapt strategy: Frequent deep dives into the performance of the business will be critical to understanding what is and what is not working. Wayfair works fast and needs a leader who utilizes data to drive action and bring confidence to stakeholders that teams are focusing on the right areas of the business
  • Influence a diverse set of internal stakeholders: Associate Directors of Category Management are STO (single thread owners) of their business at Wayfair. Given Wayfair is a matrixed organization with ownership divided across specialized, expert teams, executing a cohesive strategic plan requires understanding, influencing, and motivating many different teams and individuals
  • Drive a technology agenda: Partner with our Engineering, Storefront, Legal and Data Science teams to build the tools necessary for us to manage the protection of original design as appropriate across our various platforms

What You'll Need

  • 8+ years of relevant experience preferred
  • Demonstrated experience building a business or delivering against targets and goals in a fast and rapidly evolving environment
  • Senior presence; able to clearly and consistently work side-by-side with a broad range of senior leaders and functions to achieve goals
  • Analytical thinking and looks for (and finds) answers in the data
  • Persuasive and articulate communication skills with excellent negotiations and relationship-building skills
  • Evidence of ‘scrappy startup execution’ and a ‘get it done’ attitude when time is tight and stakes are high
  • Innovative problem-solving skills - ability to dissect and resolve root causes of problems, and implement solutions
  • A consistent track record of leadership and taking ownership
  • Evidence of building a vision and soliciting buy-in against it to continuously improve the experience we present to our customers
